Senior Librarian Cataloguing and Classification Library and Information Services (2687) at Nelson Mandela University

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

• To be responsible for and oversee the integrity of all metadata-related processes, identifies opportunities for new projects and collaborations to maximize resource discoverability.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Maintains a working knowledge of existing and emerging metadata standards, tools, best practices, and developments in metadata and linked data environment.
• Oversees all catalog maintenance activities.
• Oversees all database quality control activities.
• Assist in the continuing access of electronic information resources.
• Performs high level original and copy cataloguing activities to enhance the user discovery experience.
• Responsible for loading all Mandela University thesis and dissertations, including all research outputs into appropriate repositories.
• Collaborates with Electronic Resources Management department in troubleshooting resource access and discoverability issues.
• Monitors external developments and changing needs in Cataloguing and metadata areas.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Experience with the Millennium / SIERRA Cataloguing module.
• Experience in analysing and remediating existing metadata to meet current standards.
• Experience with the OCLC Worldcat database / WorldShare Records Manager.
• An in-depth knowledge of cataloguing and classification standards such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LC Classification system, DDC.
• Knowledge of BIBFRAME, Dublin Core or other non-MARC metadata schema.
• In-depth knowledge of electronic resources cataloguing.
• Proven experience in bibliographic and authority control.
• Familiarity with institutional repository platforms.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.

REQUIREMENTS

• M+4 (Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science).
• plus 4 years’ experience working in an academic institution.
