    Senior Manager, Data Analytics

    Job Purpose

    This role is to lead product insights and portfolio optimization for the Card and Payment business, which include businesses in both Issuing and Acquiring, and Consumer and Industry Payment trends.
    This role will lead initiatives to identify drivers of business performance and build profitability and action effect models, and further undertake revenue leakage exercise, including credit risk and operational risk for ongoing portfolio optimization.
    This role will also be responsible to support the business through data and analytics, aiding in building toward organization data systems and pipelines, support the delivery of end to end solutions to business problems through robust data structure. This will require building and automating of vast data sets within Card & Payment that integrate multiple data sources in the development of insights and inform Card & Payment Client Solutions strategies for becoming a Modular Producer and generating alternative revenue streams for beyond banking.

     

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Client Manage and oversee business needs analysis through receiving requests for data, engage and collaborate with internal and / or external stakeholders to understand business data requirements and proactively interrogate stakeholders to ensure that credit risk data are delivered in an appropriate format and to the desired specifications.
    • Client Drive key drivers of performance and factors which impact on performance. Identify opportunities to improve business financial performance or customer experience by collaborating with Business Executives and senior stakeholders. Oversee Quantitative Analysts to analyse data to identify opportunities for financial, process or customer experience improvements and drive such improvements throughout the business.
    • Data Identify and evaluate alternate, available and relevant data sources to ensure reliability, validity and simple, efficient access to appropriate source data. Locate and remove duplicate sources of data and download and store required data resources in a chronological structure. Work with other analysts and data engineers on quality assurance of source data and systems. Gather appropriate data and insights and quantitative outputs for model development. Adheres to standardised terminology and processes and provide input into terminologies and processes for improvement.
    • Data Oversee instances where insufficient and/or inaccurate data is available and does not meet business requirements -prepares alternative approaches for consideration. Identify and resolve any ad hoc and / or persistent data quality and integrity issues by conducting both routine and ad-hoc data cleaning and testing, to facilitate the generation of aggregate and up-to-date risk data in a timely manner while also meeting the principles relating to accuracy, integrity, completeness and adaptability.
    • Data Oversee data pre-processing (i.e. data manipulation, transformation, normalisation, standardisation, visualisation and derivation of new variables/features), as applicable to developing specific algorithms or
    • models. Build complex rules to transform the data into normalised data and / or report formats, depending on the needs of Model Development.
    • Compile, sort and organises data in preparation for subsequent analysis.
    • Build data sets required to solve for opportunities.
    • Product Conduct detailed research and quantitative analyses, building profitability, action-effect or propensity models to enable strategy. Conduct on-going reviews of model performance in order to identify model exceptions and
    • trends. Execute statistical verification tests, report and identify weaknesses and improvements to governance bodies.
    • Product Oversee the development and generation of routine and ad-hoc reports, dashboards and data fact sheets in line with business requirements (i.e. in the required formats and with the relevant visualizations and commentary). Prepare interpretation of finding into clear, actionable, and timely insights and present these to senior internal and/or external clients (e.g. Model Development and External Agencies).
    • Client Generate proposal for change strategies (customer treatment strategies or remediation strategies linked to model validation), obtaining sign-off from business and any relevant governance forums. Work with business to execute the proposal. Report on performance of strategies against expectations.
    • Data Oversee that all project / model documentation is accurately recorded and stored for easy access (from a technical and non-technical perspective).
    • People Liaise and collaborate with the entire EDO team, providing support to the entire department for its quantitative needs. Collaborate with subject matter experts to select the relevant sources of information and translates the business requirements into quantitative analysis outcomes. Presents findings and observations to team for development of recommendations.
    • People Acts as a subject matter expert from a Quantitative Analysis perspective and provides input into all decisions relating to quantitative analysis. Ensure ongoing knowledge of industry standards as well as best practice and identify gaps between these definitions/data elements and company data elements/definitions. Validates and certifies the work of other Quantitative Analyst and trains team members in statistical models and guides junior colleagues or less experienced staff on projects.
    • Strategy Overseeing activities of the junior team members, ensuring proper execution of their duties and alignment with Standard Bank’s vision and objectives. Provide oversights and expertise to the Quantitative Analyst team. Required to draw performance reports and strategic proposals form his gathered knowledge and analyses results for senior EDO leadership.

    • Description or examples: Provide Quantitative analysis guidance, services and ensure an effective quantitative modelling, works closely with credit risk and data teams. Liaise with and collaborate with Technology and project teams to ensure service and business delivery.

    • Description or examples: Manage SLA’s and technical service delivery of vendors in the development, implementation and customer service requirements for all Quantitative analysis requirements. Nature of relationship: Manage the relationship

    Minimum Qualification and Experience

    • Degree Mathematical Sciences/Actuarial Science/Computer Science
    • CFA/ FRM SAS or SQL; Advantageous skills R, Python, PowerBI, Google Analytics, AWS Data Analytics, Azure Data Analytics

    • Experience Description: Experience with and understanding of credit risk data and terminology within Corporate and Investment Banking.
    • Understands CIB, PBB and Africa Regions products and services, and basic business processes.
