Senior Project Engineer at ABB

Your Role and Responsibilities

• In this role, you will have the opportunity to be a design authority for an engineering discipline. Each day, you will complete assignments on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring assignments are completed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.
• The work model for the role is: Hybrid/ Remote
• This role is contributing to the High-Power Rectifiers within the Process Automation, Process Industries Division in Southern Africa based in South Africa. Main stakeholders are Mining refineries - Electrowinning, Pulp & Paper - Chemical plants, Metals - Electric Arc Furnaces, Aluminum Potlines, and Hydrogen plants.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Working with the customer to shape and deliver solutions while seeking customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements.
• Creating work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects and ensuring quality, timely implementation within the targeted cost.
• Coordinating with relevant functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured / staged, tested, installed, and commissioned.
• Coaching engineering colleagues on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, best practices, and lessons learned from past projects.

Qualifications for the Role

• You are highly skilled in Electrical Engineering with a focus on High Power rectifiers, Power Electronics and control.
• Ability to demonstrate your experience in related industries and process knowledge of High-Power rectifiers and have 3 - 5 years of experience in project engineering.
• Working as a project engineer within a multi-disciple engineering team with knowledge in Aluminum Potlines, Electric Arc Furnaces, DC drives, and specialized transformers, will be an advantage.
• Possess an enhanced knowledge of electrical applications and systems in Power conversion.
• You must be able to clearly interpret, document, and explain complex electrical concepts, drawings, and specifications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in project execution environments where you need to collaborate closely with engineers, clients and project teams, to ensure accurate information flow, project execution, and compliance with standards.
• You are at ease communicating in English with the ability to convey electrical knowledge effectively is essential.
• You must be in possession of a valid in driver’s license for South-Africa.
