Senior Project Engineer Design, Electrical at Exxaro Resources

PURPOSE:

• Custodian of Electrical Engineering for feasibility studies and ensure discipline engineering standards and specifications are defined and maintained throughout study development
• Responsible for all technical and engineering aspects related to design through project lifecycle to ensure optimum performance to business requirements, organisational objectives, and sound engineering practice.
•  Act as an interface between project team and operational teams.
• To deliver technical solutions that comply to design process requirements
• Lead design reviews/audits to ensure that designs are in accordance with project lifecycle requirements and produced in a timely and cost- effective manner

MAJOR CHALLENGES:

• Time pressure to develop high quality design requirements and deliverables
• Design reviews during study development phases
• Quality of design discipline deliverables that comply to customer and regulatory requirements,
• Scope development and management
• Change management
• Working on multiple feasibility studies simultaneously.
• Ensure continuation from study phase to implementation
• Aligning study phase standards and procedures with operational standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements    

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BEng Electrical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
• B Tech Electrical Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
• Certificate Project Management (Recommended/Desirable)
• Management Development Programme (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE: 

•  6-8 years Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and design experience Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to lead technical aspects of design. (Essential/Minimum) Operational

REQUIREMENTS:

• Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide inputs throughout the project life cycle towards improving process flow for projects
• Assume responsibility for engineering discipline design as representative of the feasibility study teams in projects

• Investigate complex engineering problems and develop solutions for optimisation of engineering systems

• Implement project management principles and practices for planning and design of project outcomes
• Conduct complex analysis of project systems and processes to support business case
• Provide technical inputs to the project team
• Provide inputs in designs, technical reviews, Hazard, and Operability Study (HAZOPS) and other project related reviews
• Ensure design for operability, maintainability, and efficiency
• Review discipline design drawings and technical documents
• Review of engineering deliverables including models, drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, evaluations, and preparation of technical specifications and design criteria
• Provide inputs to capital estimates
• Provide inputs to schedule estimates

Project Management 

• Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
• Manage projects regarding design processes, and technology and equipment selection.
• Manage project life cycle
