Senior Software Engineer (TypeScript & PostgreSQL) (iOCO0064) at iOCO

• We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong TypeScript, Postgres and GitHub/GitHub Actions experience to join us as a consultant on an initial 6 month contract. The role is hybrid in Cape Town.

What you’ll do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend and full-stack features on a Supabase + TypeScript stack.
• Work across greenfield projects and existing brownfield systems, balancing new development with thoughtful extension of what's already in production.
• Implement and maintain authentication and access control integrated with Microsoft Entra ID.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and repository workflows using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
• Use Claude Code as a core part of the development workflow to accelerate delivery and maintain code quality.
• Collaborate daily with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders in EU, with strong async communication habits.
• Contribute to technical decisions as engineering organisation grows, including tooling, process, and standards.

Your expertise:

Must-Have Skills

• Strong professional experience with TypeScript, and building web applications backed by a relational database — proficiency with SQL is a must. Direct Supabase experience is a bonus.
• Solid working knowledge of Postgres, ideally using Supabase’s default database setup and conventions.
• Proven track record owning CI/CD end-to-end on GitHub — designing, building, and maintaining GitHub Actions pipelines, not just working within ones someone else set up.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Claude Code or equivalent.
• Several years of professional software engineering experience at a senior level, with a track record of owning features end-to-end.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal — a must-have given daily collaboration across South Africa and Europe.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience automating workflows in Jira (e.g. via Jira’s automation rules or the API).
• Experience using MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers with Claude Code, or setting up MCP integrations.
• Experience working in financial services, private equity, or another regulated industry.
• Experience working in a distributed team spanning multiple time zones.
