Senior Specialist: Software Engineer at Vodafone Global Enterprise

Role purpose:

The Senior Specialist Software Engineer role is based within the Technology Business Unit.The Senior Specialist Software Engineer is responsible for owning, leading, and driving software and platform engineering practices in the Platform Enablement domain within Digital Engineering. In this role, you will be providing expert knowledge of cloud platform design, implementation, orchestration, and automation (eg. IaaC) as required to streamline software delivery within Digital Engineering. You will be accountable for the solutions and technology used to drive automation in the Platform Enablement domain, as well as provide leadership and oversight over the Platform Enablement Squad on a day-to-day basis.
 You will be required to collaborate with other software engineering leads to improve the overall practice of Software Engineering across the delivery organization, ensuring the development of highly skilled and motivated practice members.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the DevSecOps practices and defining the standards and guardrails for Platform Enablement across Digital Engineering. 
• Organizing interactions between the member's Platform Enablement squad to nurture best practices and encourage knowledge- & tool-sharing.
• Act as a supporting leader, aiming at maturing the organization's readiness, vs. controlling the work.
• Driving consolidation and harmonization of best practices on DevSecOps methodologies and practices to ensure standardization across all delivery squads in Digital Engineering.
• Implementing CI/CD, platform automation (IaaC) capabilities to drive speed of delivery.
• Act as Platform Security Champion by ensuring the implementation and automation of cyber security controls at various stages in the ‘secure-by-design delivery process to avoid and eliminate cyber security threats.
• Acts as a mentor for the specialist resources in the Platform Enablement domain, helping them grow in expertise and experience in application technologies to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge to execute in delivery squads that touch and impact the Sales & Marketing domain.
• Actively promote the internal open-source model.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• Matric/ Grade 12 is essential.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent qualification.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience of which a minimum of three years is in programming. 
• and/or systems engineering.
• Experience working with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, LSD, and FDD. 
• Experience working with multiple programming and markup languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Java, SQL, XML, JSON, and YAML, and paradigms such as object-oriented-, event-driven-, procedural-, functional-, and declarative programming.
• Experience working with Infrastructure as Code (IaaC), such as Terraform, Bash, Ansible, and Puppet.
• Experience working with multiple server, software, and hardware platforms and cloud-native environments.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles. 
• Professional experience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry are preferred. 
• Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) preferred. 
• Competency in UX principles and practices is preferred.
