Develop the departmental SHE strategy by aligning with the overarching business strategy, formulating strategic objectives, and presenting the plan for approval on an annual basis.

Formulate and manage departmental operational plan by translating strategy into actionable initiatives, including projects and performance metrics, and submitting for approval annually or as required.

Oversee the development and implementation of departmental business processes by guiding process mapping, assessing efficiency and relevance, and enforcing corrective measures where necessary.

Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures by monitoring compliance, identifying gaps, and executing corrective measures where required.
Oversee the utilisation and enhancement of departmental systems and software by evaluating usage patterns, identifying areas for optimization, and initiating improvement initiatives as needed.
Manage departmental compliance with regulatory requirements by staying informed of statutory changes and updating policies and procedures accordingly.
Develop regional SHEQ operational plans by translating the organisation’s SHEQ strategy into actionable regional initiatives,
Reviewing alignment with current SHEQ priorities, and distributing the plans for review and sign-off within required deadlines.
Oversee the implementation of area-specific SHEQ improvement plans by engaging with relevant stakeholders, identifying site-specific SHEQ priorities, defining actionable interventions, and submitting the plans for approval and execution by the agreed deadlines.
Mitigate SHEQ risks by overseeing the implementation and monitoring of risk control measures, ensuring accurate incident capture in the incident management system, addressing non-compliance, and reporting on overall risk management performance by specified deadlines.
Manage the review of SHEQ performance against defined operational plans and targets by coordinating SHEQ audits and inspections, identifying risks and non-conformance issues, ensuring feedback is actioned, and working with operations to implement corrective measures to meet SHE objectives.
Represent the SHEQ function effectively in SHEQ forums and meetings by reviewing discussion outcomes, identifying trends and key insights, formulating recommendations, and engaging stakeholders to drive the implementation of risk-reduction and performance-improvement initiatives.
Drive the implementation of high-quality SHEQ practices by overseeing the review and improvement of existing SHEQ systems, processes, and policies, offering technical support and guidance, and ensuring the consistent delivery of quality SHEQ performance across all operational areas.
Develop departmental budgets by analyzing operational needs, preparing detailed financial plans, and submitting budgets for approval annually and as required.
Manage departmental expenditure by tracking spending against budget allocations, approving costs, identifying under- or over-expenditure, and implementing corrective measures monthly and as needed
Safeguard departmental information by managing security and disaster recovery protocols, assessing existing controls, identifying vulnerabilities, and deploying mitigation strategies as required.
Oversee departmental risk management by developing and maintaining a robust risk management framework, reviewing risk strategies, and driving the implementation of improvements quarterly and as necessary.
Manage SHE initiatives by ensuring effective training programs are delivered, monitoring completion, and addressing gaps or non-compliance identified during training.
Manage SHE compliance by setting clear standards, ensuring timely completion of all monitoring activities, and resolving any issues within specified deadlines.
Maintain SHE compliance through regular reviews of SHE practices, identifying instances of non-compliance, and implementing corrective actions within required timeframes.

Requirements
Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent
BSc / B Eng / B Tech in Safety, Environmental or similar
Post Graduate Qualification in Management or Management Development Programme (MDP)
Risk Management certificate
7+ years SHE Planning and Implementation experience within Mining environment.
4 years’ experience as a Chief Safety Officer or Safety Superintendent
