Software Development Manager, New Analytics Services at Amazon Web Services

As the Senior Manager of Software Development for new analytics services, you will have the opportunity to lead the team that delivers microservices and new features to power AWS’ next generation of database and analytics technology. You will own end to end microservice design and deployment. In this role you will lead the teams to innovate and solve problems of high ambiguity and high impact. You will drive design choices, trade-offs, priorities and timelines. You will demonstrate exceptional management skills and technical expertise, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems. You are data and metric driven, and obsessively concerned about performance. You will mentor and inspire other managers and engineers, participate in defining our engineering culture, and help to build a fast-growing and highly self-motivated team. You will draw from your deep and broad technical and management expertise to mentor senior engineers and managers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues, design tradeoffs, and feature and schedule prioritization. And as an engineering leader you will work with senior AWS executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influence our technical and business strategy, help hire talented engineers and managers, and conceive innovative new solutions for our customers.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 12+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in a technical leadership role.
• Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, high-quality systems.
• Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least one major technical area: e-commerce platforms, large scale systems engineering, building complex distributed systems, building monitoring or management tools for large-scale environments. OO Modeling, working on internet, UNIX, and database related projects.
• Experience managing complex projects, with significant bottom-line impact.
• Experience leading development lifecycle processes and best practices.
• Experience with Agile Management (SCRUM, RUP, XP)
• Experience mentoring/training an engineering community on complex technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• A leadership position in a team delivering solutions at scale
• Experience in leading teams develop core database functionality including compilers, query optimizers, distributed systems, transaction managers, and data storage architectures
• Masters or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant software development and engineering management experience
