    Specialist: Diversity and Inclusion

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following key responsibilities but not limited to:

    Develop and enable an inclusive, diverse and transformed environment by: 

    • ​​​​​​Developing and facilitating social inclusion and social justice intervention.
    • Working with University Entities to identify social inclusion and social justice interventions and how they could be interpreted to be included in the curriculum.
    • Conduct advocacy, campaigns and strategic communications on transformation, diversity and inclusivity.
    • Embed cultural change interventions across the institution, working with the institution's transformation committees and other stakeholders to support the UP-transformation plan.
    • Engage stakeholders in the University community to address amongst others inclusivity by building capacity and creating a support network of peers.
    • Work with faculties and departments to guide their institutional culture change responses.
    • Research, conceptualise and draft policy documents to address gaps in policy and procedure.
    • Conceptualise and plan new projects/programmes related to transformation, diversity and inclusion.
    • Participate in the institutional transformation processes through:
      • The support of the Institutional, Departmental and Faculty transformation committees to ensure their alignment with the institution’s transformation plan.
    • Compile and submit to the Director: Transformation monthly and annual reports.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Honours Degree in Industrial / Organisational Psychology, Human Resources Management, Social Sciences or another relevant field.
    • A total of 5 years’ experience as follows:
      • Developing and facilitating capacity-building programmes with a specific focus on Equity, diversity and inclusion including social justice programmes;
      • Driving organisational culture changes and processes;
      • Driving Institutional engagement and development of related Equity, Diversity and Inclusion processes and interventions.
    • A valid Driver’s License.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Good project planning and management skills;
    • Excellent knowledge of Gender Based Violence management;
    • Good knowledge of behavioural science;
    • Sound knowledge of all relevant Legislation (Labour Relations Act, EE Act, Skills Development Act, etc.);
    • Sound knowledge of BBBEE Code of Good Practice;
    • Sound knowledge of conducting organisational climate and culture surveys;
    • Good knowledge of organisational learning and change theory, management and communication;
    • Sensitivity to and the ability to manage diversity in both the internal and external environment;
    • Ability to deal with complex issues;
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to deliver under strict time lines;
    • Thorough understanding of good governance;
    • Good strategic and change management skills;
    • Administrative management skills;
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent counselling and conflict resolution skills;
    • Excellent report writing; and
    • Excellent team facilitation skills.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Masters’ Degree in Industrial / Organisational Psychology, Human Resources Management, Social Sciences or another relevant field;

    A total of 2 years’ experience as follows:

    • Experience at a Higher Education institution;
    • Establishing networks in the area of transformation or social justice.
