Responsibilities
Context:

• A constant balance is required between the ever-changing, fast developing field of new and enabling technologies on the one hand and the ever-increasing need for resilience & renewable energy choices because of new, sophisticated micro and macroeconomic demands together with organisational need for stability, growth and streamlined network operations. 
• Ability to keep track of global technology advancements and stay abreast of standardization work of relevant industry bodies.

Task Complexity: 
Strategy Development

• Contribute to the definition of the data centre / BTS Site & renewable energy strategy and architecture clearly describing the future vision for facilities and identifying key decision points to enable this vision to be achieved.
• Participate in the translation of the data centre / BTS Site & renewable energy strategy and architecture into long range plans. 
• Assist in formulating inputs towards technology strategy. 
• Assist in delivering a target architecture with a 3-year time horizon taking global technology developments into consideration.

Planning & Delivery

• Responsible for the timely planning of all data centre/ BTS Site & renewable energy requirements within MTN e.g., solar, generators, DC plants, HVAC, UPS, and other associated facility requirements
• Assist in defining 1-year budget.
• Manage design guidelines for regional M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) resources.
• Ensure translation of high-level plan to low level design
• Prioritise core implementation network growth.
• Drive execution of near-term plans
• Forecast energy capacity and demand, in consult with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure correct planning and reporting of data centre & renewable energy baseline and forecasts.
• Evaluate new data centre & renewable energy Equipment and Specifications
• Request funding and issue request for purchasing (RFP) to vendor, verify bill of material and confirm order of equipment and services.
• Verify configuration & engineering specifications. 
• Ensure implementation of data centre & renewable energy plans is carried out fully with a smooth handover to Network Operations for cutover and integration into the live network. 
• Ensure that policies, procedures, and quality standards are adhered to in the planning process.

Network Optimisation & Performance

• Ensure quality objectives are met and maintained.
• Ensure future proof data centre / BTS Site & renewable energy plans to guarantee deliverables are met according to customer requirements both internal and external. 
• Track and report on performance problems and performance improvements on division level 
• Investigate performance issues and identify changes required on division level.
• Review design and drive optimisation changes
• Tender evaluations and formulations
• Provide high level support on the planned network/technologies.
• Provide high level planning support function and representation (technical) for ESG planning departments in MTN Group Operations
• Communication and co-ordination
• Ensure communication of plans and integration of feedback
• Prepare implementation and integration documentation.
• Co-operate with and support of other network group departments at all levels.
• Manage and interface with other areas of the business outside of the core implementation department as required for successful planning and implementation (e.g., with Suppliers, 3rd Parties, local M&E Engineers, and Business & Logistics department to ensure that contracts from a technical perspective are negotiated in the best interest of MTN) 
• Interface with legal and / or regulators where required.
• Financial Management

Continuously strive to identify and eliminate non-contributory expenditure.

• Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Tasks:  
• Influence subordinate Specialist / Engineers (local or regional) w.r.t core implementation related issues and policy.
• Act as technical representative in contract negotiations with Commercial/Legal departments
• Assist in controlling budgetary management for both capital and operational expenditure in line with the Business Units requirements.
• Communicate actively throughout Network Group.
• Develop and manage standards and specifications.
• Technical leadership.

• key suppliers: Data Centre / BTS Site & Renewable energy suppliers, Data Centre / BTS Site operations suppliers, other suppliers
• Authorities: 
• Approve, plan and authorise requests for Data Centre / BTS Site & Renewable energy projects within MTN including assisting in RAN, project Zero and other energy-based initiatives in MTN SA.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements 
Education: 

• B Degree or National Technical Diploma with relevant experience

Experience: 

• Experience in the engineering and implementation environment
• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies advantageous.
