Specialist : OSS Software Development at Vodacom

Role Purpose

To play a key role in the design, installation, testing and maintenance of operationally robust software systems that would help businesses be more efficient and provide a better service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with business stakeholders & analysts in design & development of software. 
• Review, maintenance, troubleshooting & optimization of current system software.
• Presenting ideas for implementation options & system improvements, including effort estimates.
• Testing the product in controlled, real situations before going live & preparation of training material for users.
   

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• 3 year Degree/Diploma BSc Comp. Science Honours (or 5 years OSS experience).
• Professional certification beneficial.
• 3 to 5 years in a similar role
• Self-starter – research & implement complex tools.
• Ability to use development & scripting languages, related tools + IDEs.
• Detail-focussed, with good communication skills & must be able to work under pressure & in a team.
• Database experience (esp. Oracle) & knowledge of operating systems, including Linux / Unix.
• 3 years in development role, with preference for telecoms industry.
• Analytical skills
