    Job Description

    Caprisa is an award-winning global research organisation located on the campus of the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, South Africa and undertakes research in HIV, TB and Covid at four clinical research sites in KwaZulu-Natal. 

    CAPRISA’s goal is to undertake globally relevant and locally responsive research that contributes to understanding HIV Vaccines and Pathogenesis, Prevention and Epidemiology, the links between Tuberculosis and AIDS treatment and Covid-19. CAPRISA is a UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for HIV Research and Policy and is recognised as a DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in HIV Prevention and hosts the SAMRC HIV-TB Pathogenesis and Treatment Research Unit.

    The successful incumbent will join the Caprisa clinical research teams at our Doris Duke Medical Research Institute (DDMRI) in Durban, working predominantly on the analysis of de-identified routine HIV and TB data, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Oxford.

    Applicants are advised that CAPRISA has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy and all appointees will need to be vaccinated at commencement of employment.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Statistics
    • 4 years of research experience and statistical analysis
    • SAS, R, STATA or another statistical analysis programme essential
    • Basic knowledge of clinical research and epidemiology
    • High level of computer literacy in MS office (Word, Advanced Excel and Outlook)
    • Computer programming experience would be advantageous
    • Experience analysing de-identified routine healthcare data (e.g. TIER.net) would be advantageous
    • Experience with causal inference methods would be advantageous

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide statistical advice for the design of clinical trials and different types of observational studies and contribute to protocols and grant applications
    • Determine and undertake appropriate analysis of clinical trials and observational studies including the de-identified routine health records data
    • Write statistical analysis plans
    • Prepare routine and adhoc study reports and contribute to presentations and publications
