Strata Control Officer Grade 2 C2 at Sibanye-Stillwater

Job Purpose:

• The OFFICER STRATA CONTROL (GR1 – GR3) will be developed in the role whilst participating in service delivery and support provision related to strata control processes under supervision of the Strata Control Officer.

Minimum Required Qualification:

• NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent) with Maths and Science
• Successfully completed the MTS Cadet Programme.

The Appointee should:

• Successfully completed SCO theory exam
• Two years’ relevant underground mining experience.
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
• Clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)

Advantageous Qualifications:

• COM Strata Control Certificate

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Management  Ensure a thorough understanding of the service requirements related to operational strata control processes.  Participate in panel support audits through measuring and recording supports installed, i.e. distances, degrees, dips.  Ensure that all required equipment and material are available.  Gather underground data.  Apply Rock Engineering criteria.  Observe and determine relevant geology and mining practices or conditions.  Assign numbers to geological conditions (Rock Mass Rating).  Perform basic calculations.  Record, capture and maintain data and information for referencing and decision-making purposes.  Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
• Reporting  Report on data and information gathered.  Compile reports and statistical summaries of data and information.  Report unexpected problems to the relevant stakeholders.  Make recommendations to increase the safety and productivity of the mining environment.  Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Operational Strata Control Processes  Adhere to strata control practices and principles.  Adhere to standardisation requirements related to strata control services and support.  Complete all necessary administration required.  Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Stakeholder Relations  Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.  Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.  Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
• Financial Management  Ensures that costs are controlled and wastage of resources is eliminated by working within prescribed budgets. Reports deviations to Supervisor. Building a values-based organisational culture  Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment. ESG Compliance  Align to international responsible mining principles.  SA Gold Operations: Align to World Gold Council (WGC) Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs).  SA PGM Operations: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative.  US PGM Operations: Enhance together for ICCM principles. SHE Compliance  Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.  Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.  Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. SHE Management:  Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the section.  Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division.
