    Supervisor Operations

    • The Supervisor Operations is accountable for executing the safe and efficient delivery of the delegated short and medium-term tramming operation production plan.  The role is primarily accountable for the application and continuous enhancement of safety standards and optimising sectional operational planning, scheduling and execution.  The incumbent will be required to investigate and analyse operational deficiencies with a view to co-designing and developing collaborative and innovative solutions to optimise the interfaces between operational teams, processes, and systems

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Recognized Shift Supervisor Certificate of Competency and a Blasting Certificate
    • A minimum of 6 years’ Rail Bound Equipment and tramming experience with 3 years at Shift Supervisor level
    • Proven record in Safety, Production and Cost Control
    • Sound Working Knowledge of relevant Mine Health & Safety legislation
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    • Strong inter and intra-team collaboration skills
    • Advanced practical mining experience with sound appreciation for full mining operational value chain
    • Sound spoken and written English communication skills
    • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
    • Established problem-solving skills

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, environmental, regulatory, and related standards, regulations, and instructions, relevant Codes of Practice and the escalation process where deviations and non-compliance are observed
    • Ensure the establishment of safe, efficient, and proper operation/use of all machinery, equipment and infrastructure identifying areas of remedial intervention as required
    • Actively provide and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership in line with safety, health, and environmental standards
    • Accurate and timeous reporting of all relevant safety and production matters
    • Maintain effective people management practice by ensuring that roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained
    • Coach and guide front line leaders (FLL) to assume and maintain effective and direct leadership accountability over their operational teams in respect of safety management, shift planning, work assignment and direction, planned task observations, etc
    • In conjunction with the FLL, coordinate and advise on operational logistics including stores, materials handling, equipment maintenance preparation and servicing to ensure end to end task planning, elimination of delays, etc
    • Refine and monitor the safe handling, storage and conveyance of explosives
    • Ensure the appropriate scheduling, loading, dispatching and return of all material cars to their respectful workplace
    • Participate in and contribute toward the development, adjustment and execution of operational plans and schedules
    • Investigate and analyse operational delivery effectiveness with a view to recommending and developing collaborative and innovative solutions to optimise the interfaces between teams, processes, and systems
    • Manage relationships with key internal, Business Partner and external stakeholders by ensuring broad accountability is maintained against operational delivery, service level, commercial, community and ethical standards and, resolve issues and/or escalating issues in a timely manner
