System Administrator at Stellenbosch University

Duties/Pligte        

• Installing, daily maintenance and monitoring of Linux Computer Systems and Servers at Stellenbosch University, specifically at the Faculties of Science, AgriSciences and Engineering. (This position may from time to time require after hours system maintenance).

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes        

• A National Senior Certificate.
• A degree, and three years relevant Linux experience, OR
• a relevant diploma or certificate and six years' relevant Linux experience, OR
• eight years' relevant Linux experience.
• Proven experience as a system administrator working with server software and hardware.
• Sound knowledge of Linux as operating system.
• Proven relevant Linux system administration experience.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems innovatively.
• Demonstrated analytical skills.
• Demonstrated high level of accuracy.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work both in a team (within a Linux community of practice) as well as independently.
• Outstanding interpersonal relations.
• Proven experience in taking the lead in the field of expertise.
• Proven ability to transfer knowledge to colleagues.
• Candidates may be subjected to aptitude, psychometric and proficiency tests.
• (The incumbent will be required to accept and sign the SU-system administrator code of conduct).

Recommendation/Aanbeveling        

• Any other IT-related industry qualifications.
• Any IT-related degree or diploma.
• Experience in creating and debugging Linux scripts.
