Position Description:
The Technical Consultant (TC) is a key member of a technical services team responsible for the provision of technical expertise to Customers, Sales team and Marketing, to ensure the long-term profitably and growth of the Elanco Animal Health business.
The key objectives of the Technical Consultant role:
- To contribute and support the business in achieving the annual sales targets
- To establish, maintain and grow industry relationships
- Provide Technical Product Support
- Provide Technical Product Support – Adverse reactions
- Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Management
- Corporate Governance
Functions, Duties, Tasks:
To contribute and support the business in achieving the annual sales target
- Provide technical training to sales representatives on the products in the range, ensuring that marketing material is technically accurate
- Prepare and continually update technical presentations for the sales team to use for the full product range
- Provide technical training to customers on the products range (including veterinary working groups, farmer working groups, wholesaler and distributor working groups)
- Provide technical comparison with competitor products and inform the marketing and sales staff
- Drive added value at customer level
To establish, maintain and grow industry relationships
- Provide technical expertise and leadership in the industry
- Take a proactive role in forming working relationships and supplying information to various groups that support the specific animal business industry
- Publish and present research results at professional and scientific meetings
- Actively participate in industry associations
Provide Technical Product Support
- Develop and implement innovative technical support service programs for large customers or veterinary practices, to manage products sustainably
- Provide expert advice in product launches and product life cycle management
- Design and manage trials to test new and existing products for maximizing commercial success of products in the target markets
- Participate in developing and implementing trials and marketing initiatives to improve practices through the use of animal health products.
- Co-travel with the sales representatives
- Collaborate with the respective Nutritional Advisor to provide holistic solutions to customers.
Provide Technical Product Support – Adverse reactions
- In alliance with Regulatory, oversee, report and assign causality to Business Unit specific adverse events in accordance with Elanco pharmacovigilance / compliance responsibilities
- Respond to technical enquiries from external customers
- Debrief relevant Sales and Marketing team members accordingly.
Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Management
- Identify current and potential KOL locally and abroad
- Develop a KOL management plan, including KOL contact, training, international exposure, attendance, sponsorship
- Outline the KOL service offering to Elanco (product advocacy, trial work, research activity)
- Develop and maintain KOL relationship
Corporate Governance
- Take responsibility for Corporate Governance within the sphere of influence and control
- Ensure compliance in all aspects of the role
- Report non-compliance
Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):
- Veterinary Degree (including current registration with SAVC)
- Minimum 5 years related experience within the livestock industry
- Strong selling skills
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Strong collaborator
- Thorough understanding of commercial animal issues, diseases, nutrition and industry trends
- Computer skills (Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
