    Technical Sales Consultant

    Role purpose

    • Build a consistent pipeline of scaffolding opportunities and take ownership of the sales process from prospecting and site assessment through quotation, negotiation, award and operational handover. Balance revenue growth with achievable delivery commitments, sound margins and agreed payment terms.

    Key responsibilities
    New business and account development

    • Identify and approach mines, industrial plants, contractors, maintenance teams and commercial construction clients; secure meetings, site visits and tender invitations.
    • Develop relationships with procurement teams, engineers, project managers and maintenance decision makers. Complete supplier registrations and track shutdowns, projects and contract renewals.
    • Grow existing accounts through repeat work, additional sites and expanded scopes. Maintain account plans and follow up service issues with Operations.

    Technical scoping and proposals

    • Visit sites with the relevant technical team to establish access requirements, scope, quantities, duration, working conditions and client expectations; interpret drawings and bills of quantities.
    • Prepare accurate quotations and tender submissions with Operations and estimating support, covering equipment, labour, transport, erection, dismantling and other applicable costs.
    • Confirm equipment availability, labour capacity, technical requirements and mobilisation dates with Operations before making commitments. Refer scaffold design and safety approvals to authorised competent personnel.

    Commercial conversion and delivery handover

    • Follow up quotations, address objections and negotiate within approved pricing and commercial limits. Obtain approval for discounts, nonstandard terms and scope changes.
    • Secure the required purchase order or signed contract before mobilisation, subject to company approval procedures. Hand over the agreed scope, rates, programme, exclusions and billing milestones to Operations and Finance.
    • Support variation approvals, resolve commercial queries and assist Finance with invoice disputes and overdue account follow-up. Escalate credit concerns before additional commitments are made.

    Pipeline management and market development

    • Maintain an accurate CRM or approved sales register showing opportunity value, stage, decision maker, expected award date and next action. Submit weekly activity and pipeline updates and monthly sales forecasts.
    • Track competitor activity, pricing feedback and reasons for won or lost quotations; recommend practical improvements to Concraft’s market approach.
    • Identify opportunities for Concraft’s training offering as it becomes available. Promote only courses and accreditation status formally confirmed by management.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric and at least three years of successful external technical sales or business development experience in scaffolding, access solutions, construction services, industrial equipment or a closely related sector.
    • Evidence of personally generating leads, winning new accounts, converting quotations and achieving sales targets.
    • Practical understanding of site-based service delivery, estimating inputs, pricing, gross margin and contract scopes; ability to interpret technical drawings and bills of quantities relevant to the role.
    • Strong proposal writing, negotiation, presentation and client relationship skills. Competence in Excel, email and CRM or sales pipeline systems.
    • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to client sites, attend inductions and comply with site access and safety requirements.

    Advantageous experience

    • Direct scaffolding sales experience and established relationships in mining, industrial maintenance, shutdowns or commercial construction.
    • A technical, construction, engineering or sales qualification; familiarity with mine and major contractor procurement and tender processes.
