To provide a track maintenance labour function within the Port to ensure a well-maintained and safe rail infrastructure
Position Outputs
Maintenance on Points/Crossings (e.g. greasing, tightening bolts and nuts, etc.)
Maintenance on open lines (e.g. alignment, fastening components, this includes but not limited to lifting and packing slacks, ballast fouling and re-railing.etc.)
Manual Replacement of rotting/broken sleepers Lifting and packing slacks Re railing (removing & replacing rail tracks) Ballast screening (e.g. removing dirt/mud from ballast stones and replace under rails.
Attend to rail repairs caused by derailments Operate & Use of Plant & Small plant (i.e. Coach/screw, Rail drill, Sleeper drill, Wacker Tampers, Disc-Cutters, Paving breakers, Electric Generators, Grass mowers, brush cutters, Impact wrench, “Jimcrow” rail bending machine, hydraulic jacks and rail transporters
Perform other duties to assist other sections within the department when needed
