Unit Technical Manager at MultiChoice

Purpose of the Position:

To engage with relevant stakeholders to conduct thorough planning and monitoring of the pre- and post- production activities in line with Production standards operating procedures.

Key Performance Objectives

Tasks

Production Process

• Ensures that there is thorough pre-production planning resulting in all production elements being completed and available on time
• Facilitates the preparation of the production process which includes contingency plans and allocation of resources to deliver a high-quality live production
• Takes full ownership and responsibility for the disaster recovery plan of the live productions on site and updating the action plan on a regular basis according to the different scenarios

Ensures that proper mechanical and technical maintenance on OB units is carried out regularly

• Budget Management
• Ensures cost effective utilisation of resources
• Ensures that the Productions remain within budget and that scope changes are managed according to the relevant policies and procedures
• Ensure that there is proper CAPEX planning and budgeting process
• To manage the Maintenance costs on the facility by ensuring good and proper up keep of equipment

People Management

• Ensure that Operations Crew members are properly managed, and Career developmental plans are in place
• Establish and manage measurements to evaluate the effectiveness of employees, processes and projects
• Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of technical crew or team
• Sets performance objectives and goals for direct reports.
• Conducts performance reviews.
• Define team operating standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own discipline
• Approve leave requests for team members and create leave plan to ensure adequate coverage.
• When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members calling on support from HR when required.
• Resolve grievances raised by team members and escalate only if required.
• Address poor performance of any team member through the formal Performance Improvement programme and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with.
• Motivate team members and ensure that their efforts are recognized
   

Qualification:

• Degree in Media Operational Studies
• Post Graduate degree an advantage
   

Experience

• Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in a supervisory/business management or similar role
• Extensive Sport Knowledge
• Live broadcasting knowledge
• Has advanced Technical Skills within the broadcast environment.
   

Specialized expertise through either Job-related training or on the job experience.
 

Ability to resolve complex technical and engineering challenges.
 

Plan and schedule maintenance of equipment in agreement with line manager.
