    Water Quality Specialist - Customers - Re-Advertisement

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The overall responsibility of the successful candidate will be the management of a team to conduct the following water quality assurance activities:
    • Managing relationships with customer municipalities
    • Educating consumers on being Water Wise
    • Participating in the development of the organisation Water Quality Management System and performing delegated tasks arising from it

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Science or engineering, education – NQF8
    • General management - NQF6
    • 5 years of science or engineering experience in the water industry
    • 3 years experience managing science or engineering staff
    • Code 8 driver’s licence
    • Competent in WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, pro-ADOBE, Outlook, etc.

    OTHER DESIRABLE NEEDS

    • Science or engineering, education – NQF8/9
    • General management - NQF7
    • Education, marketing, or communications education – NQF6
    • 8 years of science or engineering experience in the water industry
    • 5 years experience managing science, engineering, education, marketing, or communications staff
    • 2 years experience in consumer education, marketing, or communications
    • Blue Drop / Green Drop / No Drop experience
    • ISO9001 or ISO22000 experience

    Risk management experience

    Artificial intelligence experience

    Primary Duties    

    • Educating consumers on Water Wise:
    • Design Water Wise education/awareness processes targeted at the wise use of water
    • Implement Water Wise education/awareness processes targeted at the wise use of water
    • Assess the effectiveness and determine the value-added of Water Wise education/awareness processes implemented
    • Design and develop appropriate resources/tools for Water Wise education/awareness processes
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of resources/tools used in Water Wise education/awareness processes
    • Managing relationships with customer municipalities:
    • Conduct water quality interface meetings with customer municipalities.
    • Formulate and negotiate water quality clauses for supply contracts with customer municipalities.
    • Formulate and participate in Rand Water initiatives to assess its water quality performance by customer municipalities.
    • Assist customer municipalities in monitoring water quality supplied to consumers.
    • Resolve consumer and media queries and complaints on water quality.
    • Participating in the organisational Water Quality Management System:
    • Provide strategic direction to the organisation on water quality management
    • Develop the organisation Water Quality Management System from catchment to tap
    • Conduct tasks as delegated by the organisation’s Water Quality Management System
    • Ensure the organisation is compliant with legislation on water quality aspects.
    • Assess if the situation poses an unacceptable public health risk to consumers from available water quality and other data/information.
    • Lobby/influence internal and external stakeholders to change decision-making and behavior in the interest of consumer health protection.
    • Conduct activities in ancillary areas that could influence water quality.
    • Identify opportunities for digital Artificial Intelligence technology and implement solutions thereof.

    Management of Section:

    • Provide leadership to the section.
    • Plan, organise, and control section work.
    • Conduct project management activities.
    • Manage section human resources.
    • Manage section finance and procurement.
    • Manage SHEQ aspects for section.

    Knowledge    

    • Sound knowledge and understanding of the following aspects as it pertains to Water Wise Education
    • Water science
    • Environmental issues
    • Knowledge of sustainable development goals and sustainability issues
    • School curriculum

    Education methodologies

    • Sound knowledge and understanding of the following Water Industry science and engineering aspects:
    • Water industry science or engineering technology
    • The total drinking water supply system catchment to tap
    • Water industry legislation
    • ISO9001 or ISO22000
    • WHO/IWA Water Safety Planning
    • Water quality health impact risk assessment
    • Blue/Green Drop Regulation
    • Knowledge and understanding of the following:

    Health and Safety Act

    • Risk management framework
    • Artificial Intelligence basics

    Skills    

    • The following skills as it related to Water Wise Education:
    • Ability to conceptualise and education strategy (focus areas, target audience and methodology)
    • Ability to translate risks to Rand Water into education programmes that increase understanding / control of the risks
    • Ability to translate school curriculum requirements into education programmes
    • Ability to determine value-add of educational programmes
    • The following skills relate to Water Industry science and engineering:
    • Ability to conceptualise strategy on service/product quality (water industry preferable)
    • Ability to conceptualise total service/product supply processes from raw material to delivery to end consumer (water industry preferable)
    • Quality management (assurance and control) processes (water industry preferable)
    • Ability to translate legislation into operational requirements (water industry preferable)
    • Ability to translate service/product quality information into consumer health impact risks (water industry preferable)
