    West Coast Rock Lobster Project Coordinator

    Minimum Requirements

    • A tertiary qualification in fisheries management, marine biology, natural resources, environmental management, or related to project management.
    • Minimum 2 years as a Project Coordinator or similar experience.
    • A proven track record of working within the fisheries space.
    • Strong administrative and project management skills and work experience in managing different stakeholders.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Outlook, Access).
    • Confident and fluent communicator (written and verbal) in English, and proficiency in Afrikaans would be advantageous (written and verbal).
    • Good understanding of fisheries
    • Excellent communication.
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Confident in public speaking.
    • A meticulous approach to work and keen attention to detail.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to handle and resolve competing interests and conflicts.
    • Deadline oriented and problem-solving skills.
    • Self-motivated with good administrative, project management and networking skills.
    • A passion for environmental and conservation issues, and an understanding of the connection. between community-related socio-economic challenges and the environment.
    • Valid driver’s license is essential and own transportation would be advantageous.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Co-ordinate rolling out and piloting of the digital traceability system in the West Coast Rock Lobster fishery including the following:

    • Co-ordinate rolling out of the digital traceability system to all participating end-users across the chain of custody in the WCRL fishery including fishermen, skippers, fishery control officers (FCOs), factory stock controllers, freight forwarders, local outlets, customs and excise.
    • Co-ordinate effective implementation and application of the digital traceability system in the WCRL fishery as and when integrated into the DFFE permitting system.
    • Co-ordinate convening of the workshops to train the participating end-users on how to effectively use the traceability system including the fishermen, skippers, harbour monitors/inspectors, truck drivers, factory stock controllers, freight forwarders, local outlets, customs and excise.
    • Co-ordinate rolling-out of the traceability technology to all participating fishermen in the WCRL fishery in partnership with the Premier Fishing (Pty) Ltd.
    • Co-ordinate convening of the public awareness and capacity building training workshops to ensure that all identified end-users in the WCRL fishery are aware of and acquainted in using the digital traceability system.
    • Co-ordinate effective application of the traceability system by the fishery control officers (FCOs) to improve on accuracy, frequency and quality of landing slips inspections.
    • Co-ordinate and manage effective utilisation of the traceability system across the chain of custody including regular on-site interactions with the right holders, skippers, harbour inspectors, factory dispatch, retailers, customs and excise.
    • Co-ordinate monitoring and operation of the traceability system including identification and reporting of the anomalies, security risks and system errors in close collaboration with all the participating end-users across the chain of custody.
    • Co-ordinate identification and timeous reporting of all the teething issues in the traceability system to the technology developers in consultation with all the participating end-users in the WCRL fishery.
    • Co-ordinate timeous attendance to all identified teething issues in partnership with the technology developers to resolve technical and operational glitches in the traceability system.
    • Co-ordinate and oversee successful piloting and effective operational functions of the digital traceability system before being rolled-out to the entire WCRL fishery.
    • Co-ordinate curation of verifiable real-time data from the traceability system as and when requested by the implementing partners for management and research purposes.
    • Co-ordinate convening of regular in-person and virtual meetings with interested and affected stakeholders in the WCRL traceability pilot project.
    • Co-ordinate and convene regular in-person and virtual Steering Committee meetings comprised of all the key project implementing partners.
    • Represent WWF-SA in various external meetings relevant to the WCRL traceability pilot project.

    Co-ordinate implementation of the fisheries improvement projects (FIPs) in partnership with the FIPs Coordinator and the Snr Marine Scientist

    • Co-ordinate broader engagements with the WCRL stakeholders through participation and piloting of the digital traceability system as a precursor to development and implementation of the comprehensive WCRL FIP.
    • Co-ordinate and convene regular in-person and virtual meetings with the relevant fisheries stakeholders and implementing partners in the existing FIPs body of work.
    • Identify, liaise and where necessary collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to secure commitment for participation in the new FIPs body of work.
    • Co-ordinate development and effective implementation of regenerative actions identified in the existing FIPs body of work.
    • Assist the FIPs Coordinator in managing the FIPs tracking and monitoring tools to ensure that adequate progress is achieved and publicly reported.
    • Co-ordinate regular progress reporting, monitoring and evaluations using applicable platforms to keep record of improvement actions in the existing FIPs body of work.
    • Co-ordinate effective implementation of the identified improvement actions as per the work plan in partnership with the various task teams in the existing FIPs body of work.
    • Co-ordinate and convene regular in-person and virtual Steering Committee meetings comprised of the key implementing partners in various FIPs body of work.
    • Co-ordinate contracting and commitment of the third party consultants to lead in implementing identified improvement actions in the existing FIPs body of work.
    • Represent WWF-SA in various external meetings relevant to the development of the WCRL FIP and existing FIPs body of work.
