Woodyard QC Superintendent - Ngodwana at Sappi

As a Woodyard QC Superintendent, you will be responsible to:

Lab Management

• Manage subordinates in aspects of human resource matters such as recruitment, developmental paths and performance management etc.
• Devise and revise methods and processes for conducting tests to improve quality and service delivery.
• Oversee the testing of samples and calibration of equipment and ensure that the turnaround time is met.
• Review test results and approve additional testing as required.
• Maintain accurate and thorough records of laboratory procedures and results for auditing, compliance with government regulations and training purposes.
• Asses lab equipment for malfunction and troubleshoot by taking equipment for maintenance, repairs or get authorisation for it to be replaced.
• Co-ordinates and control incoming timber and chip quality including timber by visiting timber plantations and BOC suppliers.
• Performs standby duties

Coaching and training

• Train junior staff on relevant methodologies, technical reporting and data interpretation to ensure that they improve their communication and testing skills.
• Educate staff on safety standards on a regular basis and review the safety procedures annually.

Reporting and meetings

Provide regular feedback to the departmental manager on the operations of the lab.
Attend and form part of MDT meetings to keep up with new developments and devise ways to better serve the plant.
Performs standby duties.

Required Minimum Qualifications: 

• National Diploma in relevant Science/Engineering field
• BTech in Pulp and Paper will be advantageous
• 3 years’ experience in an industrial laboratory
• 2 years’ experience in people management will be advantageous
