Description

• To support operations through the safe and efficient operation of a Roller, ensuring that the working environment is stable, compacted, and safe. The role also supports related earthmoving activities such as maintaining access roads, assisting with deposition areas, and general site preparation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Requirements

• Primary operation of Roller equipment to ensure proper compaction of surfaces.
• Ensure stability and safety of access roads, deposition areas, and working platforms.
• Assist with construction and maintenance of deposition walls.
• Support activities such as trench preparation, spill clean-up, and pipe alignment where required.
• Operate additional equipment (Dozer, FEL, TLB, Excavator, ADT, Grader, Water Truck) when required and competent to do so.
• Adhere to all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Roller and any additional equipment.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards on the machine and surrounding work area.
• Comply with all safety rules and site regulations at all times.

Equipment

• Complete pre-shift inspection of Roller at the beginning of every shift and report all faults and problems to the Supervisor.
• Inspect the equipment (machine) and the working area.

Operator Maintenance

• Operate and maintain the Roller in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Check condition of the machine.
• Always ensure cleanliness of machine.
• Ensure lubrication as per OEM specifications.
• Maintain fuel levels in the machine.
• Assist maintenance personnel with tasks when required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12.
• Valid MQA accredited Roller Competency Certificate required.
• FEL, TLB, Excavator, ADT, Grader and Water Truck Competency Certificates will be advantageous.Dozer and Roller Competency Certificate required.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 2-3 years experience operating a Roller in an earthmoving or tailings environment.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must pass company and/or client criminal screening processes.
• Valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
• Must be physically, medically and mentally fit in accordance with company and/or client standards.
• Successful completion of Dover test.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts as required.
• Availability to work overtime when necessary.
