Three old friends - Anthony Miller, Simon Nicholson and Shaun Dippnall - got together in 2015 to do something different. They had all reached crossroads in their careers and wanted to use what they had learned to do something positive and meaningful.
Recognizing the dire need for easy-to-understand, affordable life insurance for the mass market - in South Africa and elsewhere - they founded a company called Simply. It’s a hard reality in South Africa, and many other emerging economies, that when a breadwinner dies, his or her dependents are often consigned to poverty. Simply’s mission is to secure the financial futures of millions of people. The company offers life, disability and funeral insurance combo’s designed to meet people’s needs in a way they understand, at a price they can afford. By focusing on product design, data-analytics, software development and marketing - and outsourcing 'commodity’ services to best of breed partners - Simply aims to materially reduce the cost and complexity of mass-market life insurance.
The founders have been joined by a wacky band of diverse and driven people - a kite-boarding data scientist, a missionary turned digital guru, a mountain biking technologist and a gaming actuary to name a few - the Simply team is determined to raise the bar for life insurance in South Africa and beyond. Simply has already achieved a bunch of South African firsts - from online sign up and instant cover to chat bot quoting and domestic employer combo’s. We’re confident that, with a little luck and a lot of hard work, we’re going to make a really positive dent in the universe. Watch this space!
