Description

• This position exists to provide guidance on aspect of material specification testing methods, handling, utilisation, procurement and production of tailings material.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

• Collect, prepare, analyse and test samples of tailings material, soil and slurry.
• Coordinate quality specification testing requirements on site to ensure compliance with tailings and dam construction standards.
• Perform field density testing using methods such as Nuclear Density Gauge and Sand Cone tests.
• Ensure materials are compacted within acceptable moisture and density specifications, including monitoring Optimum Moisture Content.

Safety

• Ensuring safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times.
• Ensuring Laboratory methods statements and risk assessments in place and applied.
• Conducting Planned Task Observation (PTO) and Visible Field Leadership (VFL)

Maintenance

• Attending to laboratory housekeeping
• Maintaining laboratory equipment.

Reporting

• Recording data and results accurately and responsibly.
• Filing and submitting recorded data to client representative, site management & line management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12.
• National Diploma in Civil Engineering.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a laboratory or materials testing role within a construction or tailings environment.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, compaction principles and density testing methods.
• Ability to interpret material testing specifications and results.
• Strong technical and operational knowledge of construction material testing.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with site operations and technical teams.
• Strong attention to detail when recording and analysing test results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Requirements

• Primary operation of Dozer and Roller.
• Operation of additional equipment such as FEL, TLB Excavator, ADT, Grader and Water Truck when required.
• Load, dig, clean trenches or ditch slimes dam.
• Maintain access roads and connect pipes.
• Assist in building and maintaining deposition walls.
• Ensure that relevant the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the specific machine are followed at all times.
• Responsible for general housekeeping of the machine.
• Adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Equipment

• Complete pre-shift inspection report at the beginning of every shift and report all faults and problems to the Supervisor.
• Inspect the equipment (machine) and the working area.

Operator Maintenance

• Operate and maintain equipment as per OEM operator manual specifications.
• Check condition of the machine.
• Always ensure cleanliness of machine.
• Ensure lubrication as per OEM specifications.
• Maintain fuel levels in the machine.
• Assist maintenance personnel with tasks when required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12.
• Valid MQA accredited Dozer and Roller Competency Certificate required.
• FEL, TLB, Excavator, ADT, Grader and Water Truck Competency Certificates will be advantageous.Dozer and Roller Competency Certificate required.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 2-3 years experience operating a Dozer and/or Roller in an earthmoving or tailings environment.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must pass company and/or client criminal screening processes.
• Valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
• Must be physically, medically and mentally fit in accordance with company and/or client standards.
• Successful completion of Dover test.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts as required.
• Availability to work overtime when necessary.

PURPOSE

• Perform the task of excavating and loading of materials as per company SOP/STP.

Responsibilities

• Excavating and loading of materials
• Levelling using the bucket
• Cleaning using the bucket
• Perform Adhoc work as and when required

• Conducting of a walk around inspection
• Reporting all defects
• Completion of pre –start checklist

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12
• Valid Code 10 driver's License;
• Valid Excavator Competency Certificate

EXPERIENCE

• Approximately 5 years relevant work experience in an earthmoving environment
• Familiar with mining equipment and safety related standards i.e. Excavator

• Medical fitness record
