    Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Zoology and Entomology

    Main Objectives

    • To assist the researchers in conducting laboratory quality assurance analyses including screening for disease organisms and bioassays and to assist with the maintenance of the insect cultures housed in the Centre for Biological Control.

    The Requirements
    Relevant qualification: Grade 12, preferably with Biology and/or Science and 6 months’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Previous experience working in a scientific laboratory (candidates with lab experience as part of post-school qualification may also be considered)
    • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license

    Admin Assistant (Part-Time)

    Main Objectives

    • To provide administrative support to the Director and the E&IC Division.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 plus approximately one year’s relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Diary management
    • Administrative experience where managing the day-to-day running of the office was a key responsibility
    • Use of Google Workspace
    • Coordinating travel arrangements
    • Previous financial administration experience with an electronic financial management system.
    • Event and project administration would be an advantage.

    Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer in the Department of Statistics

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels. In addition, they are expected to be actively involved in the development and advancement of their discipline through professional service.

    The Requirements 
    Lecturer: 

    • At least a Master’s in the Mathematical Statistical Sciences, but not in Operations Research / Applied Statistics / Decision Science / Analytics / Applied Mathematics. The Department of Statistics teaches mathematical statistics with emphasis on the development of the statistical theory and the subsequent application thereof, and not necessarily the application of statistics.
    • Tutoring and facilitation are required, as well as conference presentations and some teaching experience, which are added advantages.
    • Ability to teach in one or more of the following disciplinary areas of Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate levels: Distribution theory; Multivariate Analysis; General Linear Models, Generalised Linear Models; Classification/Statistical Learning; Bayesian Statistics; Financial Statistics; Stochastic Processes; Time Series Analysis; Bootstrap.
    • Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.
    • Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, and work experience.

    Senior Lecturer: 

    • At least a PhD in the Mathematical Statistical Sciences, but not in Operations Research / Applied Statistics / Decision Science / Analytics / Applied Mathematics. The Department of Statistics teaches mathematical statistics with emphasis on the development of the statistical theory and the subsequent application thereof, and not necessarily the application of statistics.
    • Teaching, facilitation, and conference presentation experience required.
    • Experience in teaching in one or more of the following disciplinary areas of Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Distribution theory; Multivariate Analysis; General Linear Models, Generalised Linear Models; Classification/Statistical Learning; Bayesian Statistics; Financial Statistics; Stochastic Processes; Time Series Analysis; Bootstrap.
    • Research supervision of Master's to completion and preferably PhD degrees required.
    • Track record of research publications.
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
