    Cleaner (Post Level 18)

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Clean and sanitise all areas in the appointed accommodation category according to the current colour-coding system: 
    • Adhere to all cleaning protocol eg, Basics of cleaning and All-Care colour coding system.
    • Adhere to feedback upon all inspection appraisals.
    • Rotate between residences due to staff shortages.
    • Follow procedure of the All-Care colour coding system regarding the use of cleaning detergents and cleaning equipment.
    • Use the correct equipment for the identified area, as well as the correct application of equipment.
    • Use the correct detergent as well as the correct dilution of detergents for the identified area.
    • Keep equipment clean and in good hygienic condition and report faulty equipment to the Housekeeping Manager:
    • Keep equipment neat and hygienically clean when is in use and /or stored.
    • Sanitise equipment in sanitising buckets provided according to the All-Care colour coding system.
    • Report faulty equipment to the Housekeeping Manager.
    • Ensure compliance to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures and ensure protective gear is worn to maintain safety in the department:
    • Maintain visibility of PPE upon all inspection’s appraisals.
    • Report faulty or worn-out PPE to Housekeeping Manager.
    • Prepare residences timeously for conferences by executing the following tasks:
    • Clean Residences, including rooms prior to, during and after conferences.
    • Make beds according to HRA standards.
    • Clean residences during conferences according to the All-Care colour coding system.
    • Take off the linen after the attendees left.
    • Work during weekends as required over long weekends and during conferences as organised within specific cluster for long weekends according to the yearly calendar and according to conference list:
    • Movement between residences and staff will be placed according to the conference list and recess cleaning needs.
    • Attend all staff meetings as instructed by Housekeeping Manager.
    • Keep restrooms in a neat and hygienic state.
    • Clean restrooms and staff bathroom every Friday between 15h00 - 16h00
    • Keep the restrooms and staff bathroom tidy daily.
    • Take ownership of restrooms and bathrooms by reporting maintenance and pest control issues to the Housekeeping Manager.
    • Adhere to working hours as stipulated in job description

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Grade 10 on NQF Level 2.
    • Relevant experience related to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendations:

    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a colour coding cleaning system.

    Intern (2 Positions) (Contract Appointment: 1 Year)

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Compile a database with full details of tutors.
    • Assist with ad hoc problem-solving where venues are concerned.
    • Book venues and schedule online links for tutorial and training purposes.
    • Resolve venue and online tutorial challenges.
    • Assist tutors in specific modules with planning and implementing session plans.
    • Capture attendance data on Oracle for reporting and research purposes.
    • Assist TLCs (Teaching and learning Coordinators) with providing thorough, constructive feedback to tutors during observations.

    Assistant Director (Post Level 7)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Coach and mentor staff to maintain and improve productivity levels which is aligned institutionally.
    • Assist with compliance of relevant financial policies.
    • Foster a positive climate within the team. Maintain positive work environment that enhances the wellness, satisfaction and motivation of staff.

    Inherent requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma/BTech degree/postgraduate certificate on NQF Level 7 with Accounting as a final-year subject (attach academic record). 
    • Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant working experience relating to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendations:

    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.

    Assistant Dean: Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Support the Dean of the faculty as his/her representative on functional matters of concern to the faculty on the Qwaqwa campus.
    • Support the campus Vice Principal: Academic & Research in operational management.
    • Provide academic leadership and management to the faculty on the Qwaqwa campus through the provision of a high-quality, technically advanced and cost-effective educational service in alignment with the objectives of the university.
    • Promote, through the provision of academic and managerial leadership, a high level of academic integrity, achievement and excellence in each department in respect of research, teaching and community service.
    • Liaise with the Academic Heads of Department, support their teaching and learning activities, further study, publication, community involvement and research.
    • Promote the faculty as a centre of excellence on the Qwaqwa campus through conducting, promoting and/or supervising research initiatives in the faculty.
    • Support academic staff by lecturing in appropriate discipline as may be required.
    • Monitor the provision of high-quality education by ensuring academic staff comply with the academic standards, rules and regimes as set by Senate and Council.
    • Identify potential concerns/constraints in relation to facilities/resources, e.g. lack of laboratory facilities, shortage of skilled staff, etc., and motivate appropriate remedial action plans.
    • Monitor the cost effectiveness and viability of existing programmes in Qwaqwa, e.g. staff/student ratios and motives/implement proactive plans and actions where programmes on offer may appear unsustainable.

    • Motivate and implement plans and strategies to ensure Branch Faculty growth and development is in line with the strategic vision and goals of the Branch and institution, e.g. monitors that enrolments are aligned with objectives of the 3-year rolling plan and statutory funding formula.
    • Coordinate in conjunction with Subject Heads of Departments as appropriate, the preparation of the budget for the faculty in Qwaqwa, incorporating the resources (internal and external) required to achieve agreed objectives with optimal efficiency.
    • Oversee the capture and generation of relevant data and statistics required for operational and strategic purposes, e.g. student intake levels by department vs target; equity profiles by department; monitor work performance and availability of staff via leave forms etc.
    • Prepare and submit regular and/or ad hoc reports as required by the VP: academic & Research and/or executive management relating to the functioning of the faculty e.g. on viability of marginal programmes.
    • Liaise with relevant offices to ensure efficient service to students and staff.

    Inherent Job Requirements

    • ​​​​​​​A relevant Doctoral degree in the Natural Sciences on NQF Level 10.
    • Any member of the academic staff in the faculty who is appointed at Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor level.
    • Proven experience in academic leadership as either an Academic Head of Department, Subject Head and/or Programme Director.

    Teacher Education and Professional Development Studies Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Conduct innovative research in the following areas: Practitioner/Educator Professional Development; Curriculum reform and Facilitation of Learning.  
    • Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
    • Initiate research projects and seek funding for them.
    • The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    • Do limited teaching in the Programmes where appropriate.
    • Provide limited supervision and/or co-supervision at Honour’s, Master’s and/or Doctoral level where appropriate.
    • Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities in the Faculty of Education
    • The successful candidate will be required to conduct innovative research and obtain evidence- based empirical data on current developments in Teacher Education and professional development studies within the South African context.

    Eligibility requirements:

    • Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State.
    • Graduated with a relevant PhD degree, with a focus on Teacher Education and Professional Development studies within the last five years.
    •  Successful candidates must remember that the fellowship will terminate once your PhD degree reaches the fifth (5th) year of graduation.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
    • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS Bloemfontein Campus.
