    Lignin Attendant

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for a Lignin Attendant to ensure the smooth operation of Modified Lignin equipment and chemicals to ensure that good quality modified products are made with no waste.

    As a Lignin Attendant, you will be responsible to: 

    • Assists the Spray Dryer Operator in the making of Modified lignin Products both Liquid and Powder.
    • Runs Batch Reactions of Lignin paying close attention to quality of product produced
    • Ensures safe correct dosing of chemicals.
    • Ensure valves are correctly lined up for required products and communicates with the Spray Dryer operator to ensure levels are correct and no contamination occurs.
    • Monitors reaction exotherm and ensures the correct peak ratios are reached
    • Runs 25kg Bagging plant during Modified lignin runs with the assistance of the Assistant SD operator and the SD operator
    • Visually checks, Chemical Storage Areas, Pumps, Tanks, conveyors, chutes, and other plant machinery for defects which may require attention and reports to the Production Foreman. (Autonomous Maintenance).
    • Maintains housekeeping and safety by keeping his plant clean, tidy, and adhering to safety practices and procedures.
    • Assists in the Sodium Sulphite plant.
    • Samples liquor after the reaction and pumps the correct tanks based on results.
    • Carries out any duties/tasks as requested by supervision
    • Reducing waste, Preventing spills
    • Meeting environmental targets that apply to his sphere of influence
    • Complying with hazardous chemical handling procedures
    • Complying with environmental legal requirements

    What are we looking for?

    Relevant Qualifications & Experience

    • Matric and N4 Pulp & Paper Certificate (4 subjects) and/or relevant NQF Level 5 qualification.
    • Computer Literate (MS Office Package).
    • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably, paper production.
    • An S4 in Pulp & Paper or Chemical Engineering would be advantageous

    Rigger

    Description

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for a Rigger to provide a specialist service to the customer on rigging and inspection of lifting equipment on a daily basis and shift basis throughout the mill according to safe engineering standards.

    As a Rigger you will be responsible for:

    • Write quality control procedures for rigging tasks.
    • Liaise with customer on rigging requirements and advise (customer plant engineers, foremen, production personnel.
    • Contact suppliers and outside firms pertaining to lifting equipment to get the best service and quality at all times.
    • Attend meetings and enquiries as part of a service to the mill
    • Instruct and control personnel who are functionally assigned as part of a rigging team or contractors during shut in area of responsibility.
    • Drive mobile cranes and machinery in the absence of crane drivers or when the job requires of them to do so.
    • Do legal inspection for lifting equipment, complete registers and declare equipment fit for use or not.
    • Do specialised rigging tasks by assessing requirements and calculating safe lifting angles, radii and loads for lifting equipment and mobile cranes.
    • Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section.
    • Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of non-conformances and corrects deviations.
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.
    • Inspection of lifting equipment, lifting machinery and colour coding.

    What are we looking for?

    Relevant Qualifications & Experience

    • Matric & N2 Engineering (N3 Desirable)
    • Rigging Trade Test Certificate 
    • Two (2) year’s post – apprenticeship experience in a heavy engineering environment.
    • Rigging experience in paper machine roll removal and installation will be preferred

    Relief : Utilities Field Operator

    Description

    • We’re on the lockout for Relief : Utilities Field Operator the incumbent in this position will provide assistance to the Process Controller for the continuous and efficient operation of the Boilers, TFR, PM Abatement, Power station & Auxiliary Plants and to ensure that the plant remains clean at all times operating in a safe and efficient manner.

    As a Relief : Utilities Field Operator you will be responsible to:

    • Opens, closes manual valves on request
    • Manipulates valves to the correct open or close position based on start-up or shutdown and normal operations
    • Opens and closes by-pass lines as and when required
    • Assist the Process Controller in changing over and flushing of all relevant pipework
    • Checks the functionality of all-important auxiliary equipment’s of the Boiler
    • Conducts plant related tasks on instruction from foreman and process controller
    • Checks coal bunker levels at the beginning of every shift
    • Cleans hydro seals on boilers
    • Conduct baghouse section checks and plant operation including housekeeping.
    • Monitor TFR section and conduct housekeeping as and when required
    • Slices and breaks ash clinkers
    • Initiates light up of boilers after instruction form process controller-steam, fetch wood , paper from PM2 and paraffin from stores before lighting the fire
    • Blows soot on boilers by operating soot blower, after instruction from process controller
    • Keep grit refiring in hoppers on CFB clear
    • Removes and replace covers on hydro seals and jammed stokers for cleaning
    • Assist process controller – turbine with all related tasks at power station opening and closing of valves
    • Take water meter readings in the mill, compound, DFM and river pumps every week
    • Assist in greasing the stokers when its jammed, open and do first line maintenance
    • Cleans LP and HP feedwater filters
    • Maintains boiler bed fires using long metal pipes/rod in all Coal fired boilers
    • Maintain good housekeeping around Plant
    • Change stoker belts when its necessary or damaged
    • Supervisor cleaners when cleaning spillages in boilers house
    • Clears paddle ash extractor when jammed
    • Wash basement twice a shift and ensures the drains are kept clear of build-up
    • Removes ash spillages around conveyors and hoppers
    • Prioritize filling of boiler coalbunkers, monitors, and controls coal flow onto the coal belts into coal bunker
    • Record weight on meter readings before and after loading of coal into each boiler bunker, enter on LIS
    • Lash coalbunkers to prevent slag and fines build-up
    • Completes isolation as per isolation procedure as and when required
    • Operate forklift as and when required

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric and/or N3 Pulp and paper technology
    • Minimum 3 months experience as Process Trainee

    Accounts Payable Administrator 1

    • We're on the lookout for an Accounts Payable Administrator to accurately process invoices to pay vendors on time for goods and services supplied to Sappi.   

    As an Accounts Payable Administrator, you will be responsible to :

    • Verify all invoices received via e-invoice system in terms of SARS requirements 
    • Review all invoices that do not pass through the 3-way match and investigate the reason for non-posting  
    • Follow up on overdue workflows, clarify and rectify the reason for the delay
    • Manage incoming e-mails and telephone calls from vendors regarding queries related to payment processes/invoices
    • Execute and review payment proposals on SAP ensuring that the correct parameters are used 
    • Analyse in depth vendor accounts to identify aged items appearing on the GRIR reports to identify possible items for write back
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations for vendors as per the category requirements - this includes reconciliations required for GRIR clearing and audit requirements (External and Internal) 
    • Perform the operational testing required when any financial system is upgraded/changed
    • Maintain and update the four week rolling cash flow for FEC, CFC and SES and submit to supervisors weekly 
    • Ensuring that Open Credit Memos and Duplicate Tracker Payments are resolved on Celonis timeously
    • Adhoc services include but are not limited to General Accounts and Fixed Assets

    What are we looking for? 

    • Grade 12 certificate with a recently completed Diploma / Degree in Finance 
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an Accounting environment
    • SAP experience
    • MS Office (advanced Excel skills)

    Electrician

    Description

    We are hiring! 

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced  Electrician to provide electrical services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading electrical systems and equipment and ensuring that tools and materials are available at the job site.

    As an Electrician, you will be responsible for:  

    • Installs, tests, connects, commissions, maintains and modifies electrical equipment, wiring and control systems.
    • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
    • Ensure optimum plant availability by efficient diagnosis, repair and maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment.
    • Coordinates with assigned Foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
    • Inspects electrical systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating conditions, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
    • Overhaul AC and DC motors and perform series of tests on each motor to determine the condition of the motor windings, insulation and core lamination during this process.

    What are we looking for? 

    • Matric and/or N2 (4 subjects)
    • N3 Advantageous
    • Electrical Trade test Certificate
    • 5 Years post apprentice experience (preferable)
    • Must have electrical fault-finding experience in an industrial environment
