    Control and Instrumentation Engineer

    Position Summary:  

    • Hatch is seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer to join our Technologies Group. In this role, you will support projects globally working from our Greenstone Hill, Johannesburg Head Office.     Responsibilities:  

    • Daily tasks would vary based on the current project, but responsibilities could include:
    • Control and automation software development – including design, programming and commissioning equipment at the client’s site.
    • P&ID development.
    • Data and system analysis to diagnose limitations and identify improvements.
    • Working with vendors and clients to ensure a positive outcome.
    • Research and development of new technologies to help our clients meet their challenges.
    • In this role you will work primarily in the Power and Control Technologies field and interact with engineers from all disciplines, in a team environment.

    Education and Experience:  

    • Graduate of a Bachelor of Engineering or Applied Science degree from an accredited university in the controls, electrical, mechatronics (or related) discipline.  Academic courses should include Control Systems and Programming.
    • Five or more years of experience working in control and automation.
    • Must have proven skills with PLC programming and SCADA platforms, MATLAB and MS Office. 
    • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, R, Python, LabView and real-time controllers an asset.

    Senior Wind Engineer - Renewable Energy - Cape Town

    Relevant experience 

    • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in the wind industry with energy storage hybridization and network studies as a benefit.
    • Wind resource assessment, feasibility studies, site layout and optimization, project design and/or execution on site for on- and off-shore wind projects.
    • Assessment of wind resources and wind projects including strong understanding of met mast data analysis, wind regime/wind flow modelling, wake effects, energy yield forecasting, and uncertainty analysis.
    • Experience with turbine manufacturers through project design, equipment testing and operational & maintenance experience.
    • Integration of wind, solar and energy storage into hybrid technology solutions for off-grid, island and/or grid connected projects.
    • Experience in grid impact studies, grid compliance and proficiency in power system simulation software will be beneficial.
    • Programming and data analysis skills such as Python, MATLab, etc. would be considered a strong asset
    • Experience in business development through engaging with clients and developing projects and solutions to meet their requirements.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Post Graduate Degree will be beneficial.
    • Professional registration with ECSA or equivalent international association
    • Ability to quantitative analysis and mastery of  computer software specific to industry (WASP, CFD, Windfarmer, Windpro, RETScreen, PVSyst, HOMER, etc.) as well as power system simulation software (PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, etc.)

    Geometric Design Engineer

Our knowledge of infrastructure includes aviation, highways and bridges, planning and advisory services, ports, rail and transit, tunnels, and water.     As the successful candidate, you will;

    • Effectively manage and execute design packages for roads and highways projects through work sharing particularly with Australia.
    • Work in a multi-disciplinary team, requiring co-ordination between discipline interfaces, such as civil services, drainage, bridges, pavements, traffic and environmental.
    • Must have a high level of knowledge and experience in geometric design of national, provincial, municipal as well as international roads.
    • Preparation and review of CAD drawings e.g., Layout Plans, Long Sections, Cross Section.
    • Assist in developing project specifications and cost estimates.
    • Must be proficient in technical report writing.
    • Ability to operate autonomously locally and thrive as part of an integrated team environment abroad.

    You will bring to the role;

    • Highly competent in geometric road design and drawing production standards of national, provincial, municipal as well as international roads (Australia).

    Senior Package Engineer

    • Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Package Mechanical Engineer to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
    • The Package Mechanical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Mechanical Engineer is broadly responsible for establishing system requirements, performing functional analyses, defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer is required to develop, or provide input into, 3D models and 2D drawings.
    • The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or the Engineering Manager on a small project. The Mechanical Engineer may supervise junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists on a project. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to mentor young engineers as part of their career development programs.                                                                                                                      

    As the successful candidate, you will;

    • Assist in defining project scope
    • Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Mechanical Engineer with the delivery of project
    • requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule

    • Assist in preparing proposals
    • Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists
    • Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports
    • Construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
    • Assist in the commissioning of systems on site as required.

    You bring to the role;

    • BSc/BEng in mechanical engineering.
    • Registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate
    • professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.
    • Minimum five years project engineering experience.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Good planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
    • Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the
    • mechanical engineering discipline.
    • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical

    • Experience in Mineral Sands Projects projects is crucial
    • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
    • Qualification in Project Management will be advantageous
    • Mine Managers Certificate of Competency will be advantageous
    • Professional Registered Mining Engineer with ECSA will be advantageous
    • An understanding of mine planning software packages (Deswik, Studio 5D, Mine2-4D, Xpac, Surpac, Datamine or Whittle)
    • MS Office computer literacy
    • Excellent report writing ability in English
    • Understanding of financial modelling principles
    • Be able to demonstrate effective negotiation and conflict management skills
    • Willingness and ability to travel as work requires across the Africa, Europe and Middle East region
    • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and integrated team environment
