    Dean

    Duties     

    • Responsible for the overall executive management, as well as for providing visionary leadership aligned with the institutional strategy.
    • Responsible for the strategic management, as well as leadership and guidance of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, in the areas of teaching and learning, research, internationalisation, innovation and social impact.
    • Promoting opportunities that unlock research funding.
    • Promoting research excellence, research translation, establishing externally funded chairs, and supporting recruitment and the retention of talent as part of research capacity building.
    • Promoting interdisciplinary excellence and transdisciplinary research with different research entities.
    • Enhancing the Faculty's academic reputation and reach through external partnerships and collaborations with academic, business, and professional entities, both nationally and internationally.
    • Responsible for driving the Faculty's transformation agenda to promote diversity within the Faculty.
    • Collaborating with the University's leadership to drive the overall institutional agenda and sharing responsibility for the broader University management.
    • Responsible for the sustainable financial management of the Faculty and the management of resources and fundraising as needed.
    • Providing guidance, direct marketing, and overseeing strategic enrolment management.
    • Providing leadership and management with regards to all student and staff matters including their wellness.

    Job Requirements     

    • Strong academic credentials with national / international recognition and eligibility for appointment as professor, preferably in an academic department within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.
    • Proven track record of strategic leadership and successfully leading teams towards shared objectives.
    • Comprehensive understanding and insight about the higher education sector and research funding landscape.
    • Senior management experience at faculty and institutional levels at a higher education institution.
    • Demonstrated experience to promote excellence in academic quality and research significance.
    • Sound communication, interpersonal and liaison skills with the ability to positively engage students, Faculty and staff.
    • A track record of promoting diversity and transformation, including the ability to function in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
    • Evidence of relationship building and management of recognised national and international networks.
    • Evidence of values-based leadership aligned to Stellenbosch University¿s core values.

    Recommendation 

    • At least five years' experience at senior management level.
    • Experience of promoting of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and fundraising.
    • Experience of engagement with professional bodies and / or the private / public sector.

    Junior Librarian: Acquisitions (Job Level 10.1)

    Duties  

    • Responsible for a variety of tasks related to the administration of databases, electronic and printed journals, open resources, and ovseeing and advising regarding these operations.
    • Responsible for a variety of tasks related to making e-books accessible, and overseeing these tasks.
    • As a backup to standing orders, being responsible for all processes related to the function.
    • Responsible for the administration of open resources.
    • Financial administration of invoices.
    • Managing compact storage and the off-campus storage facility.
    • Assisting with managing statistics for e-books, printed and e-journals.
    • Providing client service.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, or a bachelor's degree plus postgraduate diploma in Library and Information Science.
    • At least three years' experience working in an academic library.
    • Experience in facilitating access to e-resources.
    • Knowledge of financial practices, transactions, and documents.
    • Excellent computer skills.
    • Experience of working on an integrated library system, e.g. Alma.
    • Experience in the use of various library standards, e.g. RDA, MARC21, LC Subject Headings and Name Authorities, and DDC.
    • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail.

    Recommendation

    • Experience in the administration of databases, e-books, print and e-journals, open resources and standing orders

    Junior Librarian: Scholarly Communication (Job Level 10.1)

    Duties

    • Content and metadata management for digital repositories.
    • Providing support in administration of the e-journal management platform.
    • Providing administrative support for digital repositories.
    • Providing digitisation support.
    • Performing general administrative duties.

    Job Requirements

    • A bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, or a bachelor's degree with a postgraduate diploma in Library and Information Science, or an equivalent bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Informatics, Knowledge Management, Data Curation or Data Science.
    • At least three years' relevant experience in an academic or research library.
    • A high level of computer literacy.
    • Knowledge and experience of digitisation processes and practices.
    • Knowledge of, and experience with  working in digital repositories.
    • Knowledge of e-journal management systems and practices.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.

    Recommendation

    • Knowledge of and experience in DSpace and OJS digital systems.
    • An understanding of the scholarly communication process.
    • The ability to function effectively both independently and as part of a team.
