Trader - Corporate Events Flow Trading (CEFT) and Single Stock Flow (SSF)

    Job Overview

    • Citi's Markets division is one of the world's leading global trading franchises, delivering comprehensive sales and trading capabilities across equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities to institutional clients in nearly 80 countries. Within Equities, Citi's Delta One platform provides clients with access to synthetic financing, single stock and index derivatives, and equity swap solutions, serving hedge funds, asset managers, and corporate clients through a fully integrated front office capability spanning trading, sales, and prime brokerage.
    • This is a junior front office opportunity within Citi's MENA Corporate Events Flow Trading (CEFT) and Single Stock Flow (SSF) team, embedded within the Delta One desk in Johannesburg. The role sits at the intersection of derivatives trading, risk management, and inventory optimisation, with a specific focus on dividend and corporate action dynamics across single stock positions. It offers a genuine platform to develop deep expertise in equity derivatives markets while contributing directly to P&L and the broader Delta One and Prime Finance franchise.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Manage and mitigate trading book risk across SSF and CEFT positions, ensuring precision in daily P&L reporting, reconciliation, and attribution with full ownership of book accuracy.
    • Execute OTC and listed single stock derivative trades with counterparties and inter-dealer brokers, managing firm inventory in compliance with transaction terms, internal approvals, and regulatory restrictions.
    • Collaborate with stock loan and funding desks to construct and optimise synthetic short coverage, enhancing balance sheet efficiency across delta one and wider equities financing businesses.
    • Service single stock futures clients in conjunction with derivatives and delta one sales teams, responding to pricing requests and supporting client growth strategies through precise and competitive execution.
    • Provide expert dividend and corporate action pricing to prime sales trading, offering critical insight into liquidity considerations, corporate action complexities, and election optimisation across all firm positions.
    • Partner with technology teams to drive enhancements to trading infrastructure, improving desk efficiency, automating processes, and reinforcing operational controls.

    What We Need From You

    • Analytical and quantitative foundation — a tertiary degree from a reputable university in Finance or numerical discipline is strongly preferred, with demonstrable ability to apply quantitative reasoning to real-time trading and risk decisions.  Completed JSE RPE and Trader Examination modules will be an advantage.
    • Understanding of single stock derivatives and delta one products — direct exposure to equity swaps, single stock futures, total return swaps, or listed options within a front office or closely aligned function is highly valued.
    • Knowledge of corporate actions and dividend mechanics — familiarity with the lifecycle of corporate events (mandatory and voluntary), dividend forecasting, and their impact on derivative pricing and risk is a clear advantage.
    • Programming proficiency — practical experience with Python, SQL, or VBA to support data analysis, workflow automation, and system enhancement within a trading environment.
    • Relationship and communication skills — the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders across sales, prime brokerage, stock loan, funding, and technology, as well as external counterparties and clients.
    • Attention to detail and composure under pressure — capacity to operate accurately and decisively in a fast-paced, high-stakes trading environment where precision in risk management and execution is paramount.
