    BU PGSV - HUB MEA - HSE and Sustainability Manager

    Main Accountabilities:

    • Collaborate closely with the Global BU Head of HSE and Sustainability to provide strategic direction in the Region, bringing rigor through operational discipline, in line with the Service BU strategy and Hitachi Energy’s requirements
    • Provide support and ensure HUB and Local Service Units operates in compliance with our HSE Operating System, with a specific focus on LSR compliance, High-risk activities and human factors
    • Oversee and manage HSE and Sustainability-related projects, ensuring timely execution and alignment with strategic objectives to improve overall safety performance and compliance. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in HSE performance by implementing best practices and innovative solutions within the high voltage, transformer and substation service sector. Coordinate and align HSE initiatives and actions with the BU Service HSE and Sustainability function with the aim of standardization within the Service BU and track progress of implementation.
    • Lead projects aimed at enhancing the safety culture across global service operations, promoting proactive safety behaviours, and engaging all levels of the organization in safety initiatives. Review HUB and Local HSE performance, identify issues, and develop specific improvement solutions
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for Environmental data for the local service unit to be consolidated into the Service BU reporting and to the Sustainability reporting of Hitachi Energy.
    • Ensures timely notification of HSE incidents, investigations, preventive and corrective actions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to Global Service BU management, HUB Management and Product/System BU’s HSE Manager.
    • Lead/review investigations of HSE incidents and near misses within the HUB to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and if necessary, the Fair Process investigations.
    • Contributes to effective risk management of HSE related issues by providing specialist knowledge and advice on key business decisions to HUB and Service Units. Identify and assess HSE risks associated with high voltage products, transformer products and substations service operations and develop mitigation plans to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and the environment.
    • Foster a proactive and positive culture of continuous improvement in HSE performance by implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
    • Engages external (e.g. customers, suppliers and other stakeholders) to report on, raise awareness and gain commitment on BU HSE and Sustainability efforts and performance and obtain objective feedback. Promote Hitachi Energy HSE and Sustainability culture to our clients, other departments and employee groups. Share the information to promote the awareness of Hitachi Energy procedures relating HSE and/or Sustainability.
    • Cooperates with other internal functions and business partners to drive HSE and Sustainability performance.
    • Identify and implement industry best practices and cutting-edge solutions to improve performance and align with the latest advancements in high voltage safety standards.
    • Participates in defining the annual budget for area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.
    • Develop capability and ensure that the area of responsibility is appropriately organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Guides, motivates and develops direct/indirect subordinates within HR policies.
    • Provide support, leadership and advice in order to ensure consistency in the implementation, application and compliance of the HSE Management System Standards in Service BU Operating units. Coach people at all levels of the organization with methods and training to realize an exemplary safety culture. Develop functional competence to ensure a highly professional and competent HSE function is evident in the Service Operating units. Build a strong, professional, effective and efficient HSE and Sustainability team in the Service HUBs. Provide support to Service Operating units to achieve HSE legal compliance and control the conformity. Provide strong leadership to promote a high-performance culture, role modeling and reinforcing the behaviors that will underpin Service business growth.
    • Act as a change management agent, serving as the Technical Authority
    • Ability to frequently travel for periodic site visits, audits, workshops, trainings ....

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience.

    • Engineering degree or a Bachelor’s degree in HSE required (engineering can be in any discipline if supported by proven HSE experience).
    • Minimum of 10 years of strong HSE experience, preferably in high-risk industries such as Oil & Gas, Power, or related fields.
    • Proven expertise in risk assessment, mitigation planning, high-risk activities mgmt.
    • Experience in leading HSE projects, fostering safety culture, and implementing innovative solutions and best practices.
    • Service experience is not mandatory but will be considered a plus.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Fluency in English required; proficiency in other languages will be considered a plus.

    Senior HSE Specialist

    • You as a Senior HSE Specialist will be part of Hitachi Energy business based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Contributing to improving Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance and corporate and responsibility in assigned geography.
