Senior Consultant, Cloud Infrastructure

At AWS, we are hiring the best technical cloud computing architects to help our customers and partners develop technical expertise and capacity. Our consultants will collaborate with partner and client teams to deliver proof-of-concept projects, conduct topical workshops, and lead implementation projects. These professional services engagements will focus on key customer solutions such as web applications, enterprise applications, HPC, batch processing and big data, networking, archiving and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities Include

As Senior Consultant you will manage projects independently and also deliver as part of larger teams. You will work with customers and partners internalizing their context while using your business and technical skills to design solutions based on requirements and constraints. You will own and complete key tasks and deliverables, and collaborate with others to define and implement optimal, complete solutions based on stakeholders needs.

You will work towards customer business outcomes, ensuring there is a strong connection between delivery activities and business objectives.

This is a customer facing role. You will be required to travel to client locations and deliver professional services when needed.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field
• 6+ years of IT implementation experience
• 3+ years of experience as a technical specialist in Customer-facing roles
• Experience driving discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
• Hands-on experience leading the design, development and deployment of business software at scale or current hands on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience
• Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative methodologies required
• Integration of cloud services with on premise technologies from Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, SAP etc.
• Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (eg. security, privacy, SOX, HIPAA etc.)
• Scripting and/or coding skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an Architect role or similar
• Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or Math.
• Knowledge of the primary AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, Route53 & S3)
• Strong track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of distributed computing environments
• Leading highly-available and fault-tolerant enterprise and web-scale software deployments
• Large scale migration experience Data Center to Data Center and/or Data Center to Cloud
• Infrastructure automation through DevOps scripting (E.g. shell, Python, Ruby, Powershell)
• Configuration management using CloudFormation, Chef & Puppet
• Strong practical Linux and Windows-based systems administration skills in a Cloud or Virtualized environment
• Experience managing data center operations, including data assurance, monitoring, alerting and notifications
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challe

Description

Join our team of innovative software developers dedicated to evolving our deployment tools and services enabling us to manage software deployments on behalf of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service teams.

You will contribute to building the next generation deployment orchestration and management infrastructure platform to enhance the speed and safety of continuous deployments in an environment which is expanding at a rapid pace.

You will program in various languages that primarily include Java, Kotlin, GoLang, Ruby, as well as a variety of internal Amazon tools.

As an experienced engineer in the team, you will be a technology leader responsible for mentoring engineers in the team, guiding our service's technology strategy, designing and developing high quality software designs and implementing solutions autonomously to address the ambiguous challenges we encounter. Most of our team is based in Cape Town. Under normal circumstances, we mostly work from the office, but you will have the flexibility to manage your own time. Basic Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent working experience
• 5+ years of industry experience in a software development environment
• Sound grasp of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, Javascript, Scala, Kotlin, C++, GoLang
