    As a Bale line Assistance Uptakes you will be responsible for:

    • Assist with the start-up and shutdown of operations across the bale line (from cutter to unitizer).
    • Ensure the availability of packaging materials (wire, wrappers, and labelling ink).
    • Safely operate the overhead crane/hoist to load materials onto equipment.
    • Perform first-line troubleshooting and report equipment issues to minimise downtime.
    • Support autonomous maintenance activities to improve plant efficiency.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards in line with 5S principles.
    • Adhere to and promote high safety standards, including assisting with clearances and isolations.

    Management Forester - Sjonajona

    Description

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Management Forester to plan, execute & achieve the operational estate management, harvesting objectives & targets for fibre production within resource & SHEQ parameters to ensure a sustainable and low cost fibre supply to Sappi mills and external customers.

    As a Management Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Build, maintain and reinforce a “predict and prevent” safety culture in all integrated operations
    • Inspect operations regularly to identify risks & ensure that timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management) is undertaken.
    • Plan & conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest & disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks. Record & implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from forest fires.
    • Develop a tactical plan & ensure that the annual plan of operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan per compartment in collaboration with the Contractor and Silviculture.
    • Conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure that the Harvesting budget is managed effectively by ensuring sales target tons/per day is achieved.
    • Compile in conjunction with Roads Engineer, annual tactical road maintenance plan.
    • Scheduling of short-haul and loading operations to ensure rail/road transport is released on time.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.

    What are we looking for? 

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Process Engineer

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Process Engineer to design process improvements to ensure higher production, less waste, and improved consistency of quality standards for specific product lines.

    As a Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:

    • Ensure that all Piping and Instrumentation Documentation, Process Flow diagrams, and Mass and Energy Balances for the area are kept updated, published, and  communicated to all impacted parties in the process
    • Update product specifications for the area and ensure that it’s communicated to the plant personnel
    • Review start-up procedures, shut-down procedures, best operating practices, and training manuals prepared by process technicians. Coach them on quality improvements required and sign them off
    • Review results of daily process audits performed by process technicians (Once per Month). Identify patterns that could indicate opportunities to improve processes going
      forward. Develop recommendations on which areas should be investigated further
    • Conduct detailed root cause analysis by gathering input from multiple sources, including alarm data, production floor operators, managers, and technical reports. Ensure that documentation is updated and approved
    • Develop high-level process designs for single plants based on the priorities defined in the project list for the mill or as assigned by technical managers. Ensure that
      engineering standards are met for all aspects
    • Provide process input into pre-feasibility studies with a focus on technical parameters and testing assumptions that are put forward by project teams
    • Participate in feasibility studies by developing draft processes and providing technical advice
    • Develop detailed process designs for specific processes in one or more parts of the production facility. This includes mass and energy balances, valve sizing and tuning, pump sizing, and other technical specifications designed to make processes more efficient
    • Lead design review meetings by collaborating with other process engineers to conduct peer reviews of new designs. Run through the design details to determine if the design
      elements are complete, controls are adequate, and if they are likely to achieve the improvements that were scoped
    • Present own designs to colleagues for their input and review. Review longer-term control strategies and advanced control opportunities. Ensure measurement, mass, and energy balances
    • Create an understanding of environmental standards and engineer improvements with current and future legislative requirements in mind
    • Lead risk studies (Structured What If Technique – SWIFT, Hazard and Operability Study- HAZOP) for the plant
    • Review detailed designs prepared by other process engineers from a control effectiveness point of view. Provide input to colleagues on areas of improvement
    • Present own designs to colleagues for their input and review. Review longer term controlstrategies and advanced control opportunities. Ensure measurement, mass, and energy balances accuracy
    • Work with production teams to create simulations or test environments. Closely monitor the outcomes of the tests. Update process designs based on test results and obtain new approvals for updated processes
    • Determine the impact of the process changes on people, processes, and systems in place in the plant. Develop actions to address the changes. Work closely with the project managers to draw in support from other areas (for example, Sappi Learning, if there is training required)
    • Work closely with project managers to scope out the change management actions, determine the stakeholders, and contribute to the development of communication and training materials
    • Oversee the commissioning of new equipment or changed processes. Provide the subject matter expert input into the drafting of training material and work with the learning Teams to develop learner guides and assessments
    • Work with project managers throughout the implementation of the new processes to obtain feedback on successes and risks. Adjust process designs if required. Measure the outcome of the process changes to determine if the efficiency improvements have been achieved

    What are we looking for?

    • Degree in Chemical Engineering or B Tech Chemical Engineering with Pulp and Paper experience
    • 3-5 years of process experience in a manufacturing environment

    Planning Superintendent

    Description

    We Are Hiring: Planning Superintendent

    • The Planning Superintendent is responsible for establishing and sustaining a robust maintenance planning, shutdown planning, failure analysis, and maintenance performance reporting infrastructure at Ngodwana Mill, supporting the mill’s journey toward becoming a World Class Business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Shutdown Planning & Execution: Coordinate and maintain the mill shutdown schedule, ensuring effective forward planning and strict compliance with the Shutdown Business Process by managing planners and coaching engineers.
    • Work Management & Planning: Establish and sustain effective weekly and daily planning processes to ensure optimal control of work in progress.
    • Preventative Maintenance Management: Maintain and continuously improve preventative maintenance plans in SAP R/3 through regular audits and schedule optimisation.
    • Failure Analysis & Reliability Improvement: Implement and manage structured failure analysis frameworks, including documentation, flowcharts, and supporting tools.
    • Corrective Maintenance & Quality Control: Develop and manage repetitive task lists, Quality Control Procedures (QCPs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and SAP R/3 master data to improve job quality and spares availability.
    • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Provide accurate weekly maintenance and engineering performance reports to Engineering, Maintenance, and Planning & Development management.
    • Training & Systems Coaching: Act as an SAP PM coach by training and advising users on best-practice system usage, including rotable control and the rotable repair cycle, and auditing compliance.
    • People Development & MDT Support: Build, develop, and maintain competent, motivated teams while providing effective support to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

    ​​​​​​​Essential Qualifications

    • Diploma (NQF Level 6)
    • Recognised Trade Certificate (Manpower/SETA accredited)

    ​​​​​​​Minimum Experience & Requirements

    • 5–8 years operational experience
    • Minimum of 3 years planning experience
    • Proficiency in MS Project
    • Strong SAP knowledge (PM, PS, and MM modules)
    • Valid driver’s licence
    • Pulp and Paper industry experience will be an advantage
