Duties/Pligte

The appointed engineer will be expected to:

• Assist and support the chair holder in the running of the chair.
• Solve railway engineering problems by executing relevant research and development projects, and thereby increase the rail body of knowledge in South Africa.
• Contribute to the rail academic fraternity by disseminating knowledge gained from the research by means of seminars and conferences.
• Publish high-quality research articles and reviews in international and local peer-reviewed academic journals, conferences and other appropriate forms of research output.
• Establish and build networks within the Faculty, University, locally and internationally.
• Promote railway engineering studies in the broader academic community, beyond the Faculty.
• Promote and conduct community projects in order to stimulate young learners to pursue careers in engineering.
• Based on the incumbent's qualifications, supervise and assess final year projects, research theses and/or dissertations at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate students with their research projects and vacation work in the laboratory and on site.
• Assist with the development of Gibela personnel and equip them with railway engineering skills.
• Assist the Gibela bursary office by supporting bursary holders in terms of academic support and social adjustment.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• An appropriate B.Eng in the fields of either Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer or compliance with the criteria for registration as Professional Engineer.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Experience in Rail Rolling Stock and Rail Engineering.
• Proven experience in executing multidisciplinary projects.
• Willingness and ability to enrol for an appropriate, part-time technical postgraduate degree.
• The ability and interest in field measurements and practical data analytics.

Duties/Pligte

• Conducting full gym tours with prospective members.
• Presenting the different gym pricing options to prospective members.
• Assisting with membership sales.
• Assisting members in completing various health and fitness assessments.
• Prescribing effective exercise programmes and advice to members, depending on the individual needs of the member.
• Correcting exercise techniques where and when appropriate and providing alternative exercises to members based on their needs.
• Being solution-driven and assisting members in solving any queries that may arise from time to time.
• Establishing, maintaining and growing sound, positive relationships with fellow staff and organisation departments, suppliers, vendors, tenants and gym members.
• Ensuring that all weights and equipment are neatly and correctly stored and accessible at all times.
• Ensuring that members adhere to the various access control processes.
• Willingness to teach classes of floor and studio-based exercises set to music.
• Ensuring ethical, honest and responsible conduct at all times.
• Ensuring adherence to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, gym rules and organisation policy and procedures at all times.
• Performing all necessary administrative functions for the position.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• Relevant qualification in health and fitness.
• Experience in the sport/health/fitness industry, including experience with gym equipment, exercise benefits, physical and health assessments and the interpretation thereof.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Effective conflict management skills and techniques.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good attention to detail.
• Willingness and availability to work after hours, on weekends and public holidays.
• The ability to thrive in a team within a diverse work environment.
