    Senior Lecturer (College of Business & Economics: Department of Applied Information Systems)

    • The Department of Applied Information Systems (AIS) forms part of the School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems, one of the six schools within the College of Business & Economics. The Department of Applied Information Systems strives to be the preferred provider of comprehensive and innovative ICT education, training, and research programmes to benefit industry and broader society. The Department is actively recruiting for a Senior Lecturer to join its team of seasoned academics.

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Providing national standing and some international engagement and academic leader delivering high-quality, student-centred teaching underpinned by academic scholarship.
    • Teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in AIS.
    • Provide strategic leadership on commercialisation strategy and create investment revenue from commercial activities.
    • Establish links with stakeholders, including developing database partnerships in AIS-specific areas.
    • Develop a strategy for short- and long-term financial sustainability to generate revenue.
    • Working with industry partners to develop beneficial relationships with both the private and public sectors.
    • Contribute towards staff training and development, in particular for emerging scholars.
    • Conduct market research in new markets and carry out recruitment campaigns.
    • Create CEP/SLPs and where they exist; forge new marketing partnerships.
    • Developing a research pipeline and undertaking proven research in the overarching study fields of Information Systems.
    • Developing and maintaining professional and industry partnerships and increasing AIS brand reputation.
    • Active partnerships on research collaboration, staff exchange & joint seminars.
    • Partaking in supervising postgraduate students at Honours, Masters, and Doctoral level.
    • Available to take any academic administration role within the department.
    • Participate in departmental committee work.
    • Teach courses in the department, including designing course curricula, delivering lectures, grading assignments and exams, and providing guidance and mentoring to students.
    • Expected to provide academic advising and mentorship to students, encouraging their intellectual and professional growth and helping them navigate university life.
    • Securing funding for research projects through grant applications or other funding opportunities.
    • Expected to remain up to date with research in their field and developments in the broader academic community through regular reading and professional development activities.
    • Conduct research in Information Systems, contributing original ideas, insights, and findings to the academic community. They may write research papers, publish books, attend conferences, and collaborate with other researchers.

    Minimum requirements

    • A relevant Doctoral degree (NQF 10 level) in Information Systems/Information Technology or its relevant related disciplines.
    • Proven record of accomplishment of industry experience.
    • Excellent teaching and learning knowledge, competence and pedagogies in information systems and related disciplines.
    • A proven research track record in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
    • Previous lecturing experience across the information systems discipline.
    • Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Proven research and supervision record at the postgraduate level.

    Rescue Centre Manager (P6) (Faculty of Health Sciences: Department of Emergency Medical Care)

    Job Description:

    • The successful incumbent would be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality training programmes and maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficacy in all teaching, learning and research activities. The role involves strategic planning, curriculum development, staff management and fostering relationships with external stakeholders to promote the Centre’s strategic objectives as well as generate third-stream income. The role will include the facilitation of research projects in creating African solutions to rescue techniques and technologies.

    Responsibilties:

    • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Rescue Centre, including scheduling, resource allocation, record-keeping, general logistics, budget management and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
    • Oversee procurement of equipment and supplies.
    • Implement and monitor daily safety protocols and procedures to ensure a secure and controlled training environment, mitigating potential risks and promoting a culture of safety among all students and staff.
    • Design, implement, and quality assure comprehensive short-learning programmes that align with the relevant industry standards and best practices, ensuring that all training activities meet regulatory requirements where applicable.
    • Promote the Rescue Centre as a premier facility for external organisations to conduct training, simulations, and research.
    • Identify areas for enhancement within different curriculum, facilities and operational processes, facilitating regular reviews and updates to position the Centre at the forefront of rescue training excellence.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF Level 9) with current registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
    • A minimum of (5) years’ experience facilitating medical rescue education at a higher education institution
    • A Code B driver’s license.
    • Candidates must be in a position to pass departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.
    • Experience with the functions related to a 16.2 appointee under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • A valid category C skipper licence with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
    • Experience with water rescue operations.
    • Training as an overhead crane operator.
    • A valid breathable air compressor operator’s licence
    • Training and experience in the offering of helicopter underwater escape training.

    Research Administrator (P8) (Research Development & Support Division: Strategic Research Support) (5-Year Fixed Term Contract)

    Job Description: 

    • The Strategic Research Support Unit supports the University's researchers by strengthening research networks  and fostering collaborations. The unit also assists in identifying national and international funding opportunities to  increase the University's external research income. In addition, it manages excellence programmes, including the  National Research Foundation (NRF)'s evaluation and rating system. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Identification of external funding opportunities
    • Management of NRF evaluation and rating system applications and related processes
    • Manage the NRF Thematic Grants Programme (from concept note to full proposal submission) and the 
    • FBIP funding programme, providing strategic and administrative support through the application process

    • Arrange briefing sessions focusing on various research support initiatives such as funding proposal

    Minimum requirements

    • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7) in Business Administration, Project Management, Public  Management and Governance or equivalent, but a Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration or  Project Management or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years’ proven working experience in Research Administration.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years’ proven working experience in grant management, such as NRF systems, 
    • Wellcome Trust, and MRC.
    • Proven project and stakeholder management skills

    Senior Institutional Advisor: Academic Staff Development (P6) (Division for Teaching Excellence: Centre for Academic Staff Development)

    Job Description:

    • To provide leadership, thought leadership, and specialist advisory direction for academic staff development and curriculum innovation across the University. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the provision of forward-thinking, evidence- informed, and pedagogically sound staff development strategies that promote academic staff capability, curriculum reform, teaching and learning excellence, and institutional resilience in a rapidly evolving, AI-enabled higher education landscape.
    • The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of integrated academic staff development frameworks and initiatives aligned to the University's strategic goals, the student experience and success agenda, transformation imperatives, and national higher education policy and quality assurance requirements, with a particular focus on the integration of generative and agentic AI into teaching, learning and assessment practice.
    • This is a senior, specialist role for an individual capable of advanced conceptual thinking and strategic foresight, working closely with the Director: CASD to scan global developments, guide institutional and staff development strategy, and lead high-impact initiatives that embed world-class, AI-enabled learning and teaching practice across faculties and disciplines. The successful incumbent will complement the ongoing capacitation of CASD's existing team, ensuring the University remains forward-thinking, strategically positioned, and a recognised leader in the responsible and pedagogically sound use of AI in higher education.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop, implement, evaluate and review staff development activities that capacitate academic and professional support staff to guide curriculum development and enhancement, including the integration of AI and emerging digital technologies and the complexities of assessment in AI-enabled environments.
    • Contribute at a strategic level to joint DTE-faculty efforts to drive curricula that equip students with future-oriented skills.
    • Design targeted interventions that are rapid, repeatable, scalable and sufficiently granular to meet differentiated discipline, department and faculty needs, particularly for technology and AI-enhanced teaching, learning and assessment practices.
    • Articulate appropriate pedagogical approaches and provide staff development activities for digitally enabled teaching and learning, aligned with UJ's strategic goals (Education, Purposeful, Collaborative).
    • Collaborate with the Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT) and faculties to ensure UJ Digital offerings deliver an excellent student learning experience through well-designed online, blended and AI-supported environments.
    • Design, develop and participate in the Design and Online Development Collab (a prerequisite for UJ Digital programmes), including incorporating AI-enabled pedagogical and design approaches.
    • Conceptualise, capacitate and operationalise online / AI-intelligent tutoring and learning support systems.
    • Teach on and support Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) that build academic staff capability in digital and AI- enhanced teaching practice, with a view to extending these to the public.
    • Monitor national policy, quality assurance requirements and emerging frameworks relating to AI in higher education, ensuring UJ's readiness to comply with the Higher Education Practice Standards and the University's Quality Assurance Framework (2021).
    • Support the Centre's broader portfolio and contribute to succession and capacity planning within CASD.
    • Manage CASD Staff.

    Minimum requirements

    • A relevant Masters (NQF 9) qualification in Higher Education, Education, or a cognate field;
    • A minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in academic staff development, higher education pedagogy, or curriculum development, including experience at a senior or strategic level.
    • Demonstrated expertise in AI and digital education, including AI-enhanced pedagogy, assessment design, and online/blended learning.
    • A strong record of scholarly and/or professional output in teaching and learning, staff development, or educational technology (e.g. publications, frameworks, or nationally/internationally recognised initiatives).
    • Proven ability to design and lead institution-wide staff development programmes and strategic initiatives.
    • Sound knowledge of national higher education policy and quality assurance frameworks (e.g. CHE, SAQA, DHET, Higher Education Practice Standards).
    • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and strategic planning skills, with the ability to anticipate and respond to emerging developments in higher education.
    • Strong facilitation, communication and collaborative skills, with experience working across faculties and professional divisions.

    Recommendations:
