    Head of Programme (HOP): Law (Commencing Year 2025)

    Key Purpose Statement:

    • The level of delegated responsibility will vary from faculty to faculty and from individual to individual and will change over time and as operational needs require. Normally, a particular group of programmes and/ or modules within a faculty will be the direct responsibility of a Head of Programme who will then take primary responsibility for curriculum and material, capacity building, and support including moderation and assessment. 
    • The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring effective interaction between the faculty/department and the brands with respect to all matters related to the IIE and the faculty but in particular to the modules or programmes for which s/he is primarily responsible. 
    • As this is a senior academic appointment it is not expected that the full range of activities will be encapsulated within a position description – instead, a person is expected to act responsibly within at least the following range of responsibilities.   

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Reviewing, substantively quality moderating, developing and implementing, subject to the policies and governance procedures of The IIE, curriculum, syllabus and material development of those designated programmes or modules (some of which may be service courses) for which the Head of Programme is responsible whilst always ensuring constructive alignment;
    • Promoting blended learning by utilising the technology available to achieve synergy of pedagogy, content and technology (TPACK model);
    • Aspects of faculty administration as delegated by the Head of Faculty;
    • Establishment and maintenance of effective interaction and professional relationships including communities of practice between the faculty/department and the brands with respect to the particular programmes for which s/he is responsible and more generally;
    • Identifying, developing and monitoring programme and module developers including briefing and the quality assurance of their work;
    • Setting and monitoring of minimum standards for delivery and assessment including management of academic incidents related to assessment;
    • Ensuring the fulfilment of The IIE strategic intent including a transformative mindset through the curriculum, brand engagements and other initiatives;
    • Tracking of student performance in designated programmes and modules, making data driven decisions including planning and monitoring of interventions that may be required to address concerns;
    • Identifying, briefing, managing moderators, and managing the moderation of assessments within the faculty – this includes planning and implementation of problem-solving strategies as needed;
    • Active commitment to the maintenance of academic standards and of curriculum development and enhancement within the discipline – this includes capacity building on campus and own personal commitment to keeping up to date;
    • Demonstrated commitment to the development, implementation and monitoring of all IIE policies;
    • Active commitment to capacity building on the campuses of the brands and where applicable the preparation and delivery of peer lectures and seminars - one of the key focuses is building of capacity of lecturers to work with a diverse student body together with the understanding of transformative constitutionalism;
    • Participate in, and contribute to, The IIE/faculty’s activities, particularly its seminars and workshop programmes;
    • Participation in the key governance structures and committees as may be required from time to time;
    • Contribute to the academic discourse and research output of The IIE by pursuing impactful research and collaborations that improve and enrich lives, communities and society
    • Any other relevant duties as may be required

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Law (LLM - NQF 9) is required but a Doctor of Laws (LLD – NQF 10) is preferable.

    Experience:

    • Normally, at least three years lecturing experience (full or part time) in a public or private higher education institution. Under exceptional circumstances different experience will be considered;
    • Experience in writing curriculum, material and assessment of student learning;
    • Understanding of the Higher Education (CHE) regulatory environment, including the role of the Department of Higher Education (DHET);
    • Understanding of the NQF, particularly the HEQSF, and associated regulatory environment;
    • Experience with online curriculum delivery systems would be advantageous;
    • Understanding of curriculum policy frameworks, subject areas, learning programmes and learning support; and
    • Understanding of the higher education environment and curricula.

    Academic Advisor - Foundation Phase (Schools Division)

    Key Purpose Statement:

    • The incumbent is responsible for implementing and supporting the execution of the Academic excellence strategy within the School's division and leading and coordinating the effective and impactful implementation of the academic programs across the ADvTECH schools. The incumbent is also responsible for assessing and subsequently addressing staff training and development needs and monitoring and tracking the effectiveness of the program implementation.

    Key Areas of Responsibility Include:

    Workstreams for Academic Advisor – Foundation Phase

    Academic Analysis & Tracking

    • Conduct comprehensive academic analysis across schools, tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement in the Foundation Phase.
    • Regularly monitor and assess student performance, ensuring alignment with educational goals and standards.

    Support & Training

    • Provide ongoing academic support to teachers and school leadership teams across all brands, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Design and deliver targeted training programs to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
    • Mentor educators to build capacity and encourage professional growth, particularly in early literacy and numeracy.

    Event Organization & Coordination

    • Organize and coordinate the smooth execution of Mini Summits and the NumberSense Annual Conference, ensuring successful events that meet the developmental needs of the Foundation Phase.
    • Oversee logistics, speaker engagements, content delivery, and overall participant experience.

    Needs Analysis & Project Management

    • Compile and analyse educational data to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement, and action an track improvement strategies.
    • Lead the rollout and management of key projects, such as Guided Readers, ensuring they are tailored to meet the specific needs identified through data analysis and school feedback.

    Professional Development Design

    • Develop and deliver professional development initiatives based on insights gained from school visits, class observations, and teacher feedback, and Global trends in best practice.
    • Tailor professional development offerings to address specific needs and ensure practical application in the classroom.

    Consultation with Leadership Teams

    • Provide expert consultation and advisory services to school leadership teams regarding best practices for Foundation Phase education.
    • Offer strategic guidance on curriculum implementation, teaching methodologies, and student assessment to enhance overall academic performance.

    Sharing Best Practices

    • Foster collaboration by creating platforms for sharing best practices across schools and educators, promoting knowledge exchange and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

    Reporting & Documentation

    • Prepare detailed reports following school visits, including recommendations for improvement and action plans.
    • Regularly update on project progress and outcomes, with comprehensive Manco Reports and project updates to keep leadership informed of developments and impact.

    Knowledge Management

    • Ensures that schools have communicated a rigorous academic programme to the advisor.
    • Lead the process of developing and/or reviewing the school's implementation of the academic scope and sequence documents, according to ADvTECH requirements

    Qualifications:

    • BEd with emphasis on leadership relating to Curriculum Development
    • SACE registered
    • Ideally a Post-graduate qualification in education

    Experience:

    • 3 - 5 years’ Teaching experience
    • School management and leadership experience as a deputy head

    Head of Programme: ICT (Game Development / Cyber Security / Autonomous Networking / IoT)

    • Tracking of student performance, in cooperation with trading division national offices, in designated programmes and modules including planning and monitoring of interventions that may be required to address problems
    • Responsible for identifying, briefing, and managing moderators in consultation with the trading division and for managing the moderation of assessments within the faculty – this includes planning and implementation of problem-solving strategies as needed
    • Active commitment to the maintenance of academic standards and of curriculum areas within the discipline – this includes capacity building on campus and own personal commitment to keeping up to date
    • Demonstrated commitment to the development, implementation, and monitoring of all IIE policies
    • Active commitment to capacity building on the sites of delivery and where applicable the preparation and delivery of peer lectures and seminars - one of the key focuses here has to be building of capacity of lecturers to work with a diverse student body
    • Participate in, and contribute to, the IIE/faculty’s activities, particularly its seminars and workshop programmes
    • Participation in the key governance structures and committees as may be required from time to time
    • Any other relevant duties as may be required

    Qualifications:

    • The candidate must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in computer science/game development /networking/electronics/mechatronics, or a related discipline at NQF level 9, but a PhD is preferred.
    • The ideal candidate would have a strong background in at least 3 of the following areas: game development; cybersecurity; autonomous networks; AI and machine learning; robotics and automation; IoT and sensor networks; and edge and cloud computing.

    Experience:

    • Normally, at least three years lecturing experience (full or part-time) in a public or private higher education provider. Under exceptional circumstances, different experience will be considered
    • Experience in writing curriculum, material, and assessment of student learning
    • Some understanding of the HE regulatory environment
    • Understanding of the NQF and associated regulatory environment
    • Work experience in the areas of enterprise architecture development, AI, automation, data science or digital transformation would be an advantage
    • Experience with online curriculum delivery systems would be advantageous
