    Construction Supervisor Structural, Mechanical and Piping

    • The Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the construction contractors and maintaining the project performance goals within his geographic area of responsibility. Supervisors coordinate work efforts and ensure activities are sequenced in accordance with the project schedule. A supervisor must be a competent person in the construction trade so that they may accurately evaluate the methods and performance in all respects of the particular scope elements of the project for which he is accountable. Reports to the construction manager.

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    • Responsible for construction supervision and administration including supervision of contractors and their subcontractors for assigned portions of the project
    • Monitors overall job site health, safety and environment performance and verifies that contractors are protecting their workers at the job site
    • Ensure that the works performed by the contractors under his responsibility is executed to the prescribed quality standard
    • Assists in the coordination of the design deliverables to support continuous and efficient construction
    • Communicates the identification, management and resolution of deficiencies and non-conformance to the Construction Manager
    • Assists with site administration and record keeping procedures in accordance with the Construction Execution Plan
    • Assists with construction estimating, scheduling, cost control and reporting for all work being performed by the contractor in his assigned area of the project.
    • Job site point of contact for all contractors in his assigned area of the project
    • Plans and chairs project safety meetings, assist with incident investigations and reporting, and participate in safety programs and initiatives

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Technical degree or equivalent years of supervisory experience required for a leadership   position  
    • Trade school and journeyman status for the applicable discipline assignment  
    • Minimum five to ten years onsite experience on major projects or in heavy civil or industrial construction projects
    • Can demonstrate a health and safety focus in the planning and construction execution phase 
    • Strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate and lead discipline-focused site teams to successfully execute the assigned scope of work   
    • Strong written and oral communication skills    
    • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills  
    • Broad knowledge of the EPCM model of project delivery including the activities,interfaces and interdependencies of all project disciplines (engineering, procurement, construction management, and other project related disciplines)  
    • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to practically interpret and apply good construction practice and appropriate industry standards
    • Involvement in at least one significant project similar in size, scope and location as the particular Hatch assignment being considered  
    • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment  
    • Ability to professionally manage and resolve contractor issues to avoid further conflict escalation

    Mine Planner

    Mine Planner – Design and Scheduling (Underground and/or Open Pit)

    • A position has become available for a Mine Planner who will be working as a consultant to the Mining Industry, involved in underground and/or open cast/open pit mining studies. The Mine Planner will be based in Greenstone Hill (Johannesburg), and will partake in consulting, interfacing with clients and providing technical input into the delivery of Mining Engineering projects throughout Africa, Europe and Middle East, but may support other global projects too.

    Key responsibilities

    • Perform underground and/or open pit mining studies, including mine designs, schedules, operating and capital cost estimates as well as trade-off or optimisation studies.
    • Provide technical support to project teams working on mining related projects.
    • Improve the quality of technical solutions.
    • Assist with presentation to management on alternative layouts, site-specific decisions, engineering, project progress, cash flows and capital estimates and applications for expenditure.
    • Administration, including invoicing, report writing, general correspondence to client and contractors.
    • Assist with proposals and tenders.
    • Skills transfer and technical assistance to Junior Mining Engineers

    Requirements

    • Proficient in speaking/reading/writing English.
    • Willingness and ability to travel as work requires.
    • 10 years mining experience.
    • Literate in mine planning software packages (i.e. Deswik, Studio 5D, Mine 2-4D, Xpac, Surpac, MineSched, Datamine, NPV Scheduler or Whittle, Minemax Planner, PCBC, PCSLC)
    • Excellent report writing and communication skills.

    An ability to:

    • Maintain and develop professional and technical competencies.

    Work with minimal supervision, must be self-driven and have excellent time management skills.

    • Adjust to changing priorities and schedules.
    • Interface with people of different backgrounds, cultures and at every level of the organisation

    The following would be advantageous:

    • Advanced Deswik skills.
    • Advanced Excel skills (ie VB Script).
    • Experience on multiple commodities.

    Senior Mining Engineer

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    • Bring experience in underground hard rock and/or open pit metal mining to join the Mining Practice in our Johannesburg office.
    • Have at least 15 years of experience on mine sites in either technical or operational roles and/or experience in engineering consulting and hold professional engineer status or be registered as an engineer-in-training with ECSA.  In addition to these technical aspects, successful candidates will have a desire for ongoing professional development, an interest in community involvement and be able to demonstrate solid self-motivation and teamwork skills.

    You bring to the role:

    • Interaction with clients and/or external consultants.
    • Successful candidate will participate in teams preparing mining studies from concept level through feasibility level and into project execution, which will include detailed mine design and planning. There will also be a need for participation in due diligence reviews and engineering support for operating mines.
    • Undertaking underground and/or open pit mining studies, including mine designs, fleet sizing, schedules, labour, operating and capital cost estimates.
    • Ensuring that the methodology and tools used to undertake mining studies, mineral reserve estimates, development of life of mine plans, production schedules, and analysis are appropriate to attain the level of accuracy that meets the client’s requirements in a cost-efficient manner while maintaining appropriate engineering review processes.
    • Advising on the scope of mine infrastructure facilities such as ventilation, dewatering, backfilling and ore and waste handling systems.
    • Assisting other discipline engineers’ infrastructure design by providing mining engineering input and assistance.
    • Selecting mine equipment, determining fleet size and replacement schedules.
    • Preparing study or project documentation including memos, notes, and technical reports.
    • Taking on the mining discipline work and/or participating in the engineering review process for nominated projects.
    • Identifying developments in mining practice and analysis techniques which offer opportunity for improved efficiency and business development.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience required for this role will include:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or an associated field.
    • Ability to obtain registration as a Pr. Eng.
    • Competency in one or more mine design software packages (Deswik preferred).
    • Knowledge of current mining practices and equipment productivities.
    • Excellent English oral, written, and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated teamwork, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
    • Strong analytic and problem-solving ability.
    • General knowledge of metal industry economics and financial assessment.
    • Willingness to participate in external business development activities.
    • Willingness to travel to Client locations for short term assignments.

    Mechanical Engineer - Mining

    As the successful candidate, you will:  

    • Assist the Engineering Manager and Lead Mechanical Engineer with defining the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule
    • Prepare engineering calculations for hydraulic and conveying system as well as static equipment – tanks, pressure vessels, bins and chutes
    • Prepare PFD’s and input into P&IDs
    • Prepare project standard specifications and design criteria
    • Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications and data sheets for mechanical equipment with input from other disciplines
    • Manage packages through their whole life cycle, from specifying requirements, completing technical bid evaluations and expediting and reviewing vendor data
    • Work with designers to provide engineering input to 3D model and drawing development
    • Respond to technical queries raised during the construction phase and commissioning of systems on site as required

    You will bring to the role:  

    • A recognized degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 – 5 years’ relevant post graduate experience
    • Excellent attitude towards safety and a demonstrated ability to comply with safety requirements
    • Previous experience and ability to travel and work on client sites as required
    • Current knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering standards and statutory regulations
    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with our internal and external clients
    • Positive attitude towards problem solving and technical challenges

    Summary

    • The Site Planner is responsible for the delivery of project planning, reporting and progress measurement, ensuring that Hatch procedures and best practices are applied, as appropriate, and recommending changes to the Lead Planner and Project Controls Manager where required.
    • The Site Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining a project plan and schedule to meet the project objectives.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

    • Three years tertiary qualification, relevant degree or diploma in engineering or project management or suitable comparable experience
    • 8-10 years’ experience as a Planner in a multi discipline project environment
    • Sound technical knowledge in a multi-discipline environment
    • Primavera Project Planner P6 & Microsoft Projects
    • Technical overview of work methods and techniques
    • Risk management principles
    • Good knowledge of project management principles.

    Preferred

    • Interpersonal and good communication skills
    • Knowledge of forms of contract will be a definite advantage.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office package)
    • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
