    Infrastructure Specialist - Parktown

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The purpose of this role is to understand and configure infrastructure and environments for all new implementations, as well as assist with troubleshooting during initial deployments or post-deployment application issues. The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of on-premise technologies as well as cloud technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong aptitude for integrating cutting-edge solutions. The ideal candidate will also get involved with general project delivery where they can assist and also help solve production related problems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess, understand, and document business requirements for new implementations.
    • Analyse existing or new architecture on projects or enhancements and work to ensure that requirements are progressed through the various forums required to ultimately allow successful setup, working with both architecture and ops team to achieve success.

    Required Knowledge and Experience    

    • 5 – 8 years relevant experience including;
    • Proven experience in infrastructure management and cloud management, preferably with major cloud service providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Must have experience with Linux based installations, and good knowledge of command line tools (e.g., Helm, Kubectl, SFTP, OpenSSL).
    • Experience in designing and deploying highly scalable, fault-tolerant solutions.
    • Must have experience in containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Repositories) and microservices architecture

    Knowledge

    • Strong understanding of computing concepts, including virtualization, storage, networking, and security.
    • Proficiency in cloud automation/orchestration tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
    • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack.
    • Understanding of network protocols, firewalls and network security groups, load balancers, and VPN configurations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support in research to aid in extracting conclusions that will enable the creation of the product customer value proposition (CVP)

    Role Objectives:

    • The role is based in Johannesburg and the successful candidate will be required to visit brokers on a weekly basis.
    • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with brokers to attract, underwrite and develop profitable new business.
    • Effectively market A&H related insurance products and services to binder, outsourced and direct commercial brokers in Johannesburg and Pretoria
    • Where possible, new brokers are sourced and on-boarded.
    • Interpret, explain and effectively market all A&H products and services in collaboration with the centre of excellence.
    • Development, maintenance and implementation of broker and new business strategy.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Sales and Marketing: Visit brokers and accompany sales team members on broker visits within Johannesburg and Pretoria. Manage own portfolio, obtain new business from brokers and develop relationships with existing and new brokers. Manage the growth (including organic growth) of the division. Sell A&H products to brokers and/or agents using consultative selling techniques.     • Operational Management: Ensure that policy transactions (quotes, new business) are issued and recorded accurately and in a timely manner by rating and/or capturing transactions to the core business system. Assist in the general management of all aspects relating to operations within the division. Develop a broker segmentation strategy and develop and maintain a Branch and broker visibility plan / visitation programme in line with the segmentation strategy and in conjunction with other stakeholders.

    Required Knowledge and Experience    

    • At least 5 years relevant Insurance / Financial services experience with a proven track record
    • Knowledge of A&H business will be advantageous
    • Experience and relationships within the Commercial Broking market

    Long-Term Head of Actuarial Function (HAF)

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The LT Head of Actuarial Function is responsible for expressing an opinion to the Board on specified short-term actuarial matters within Hollard, as well as providing advice to the Board on actuarial issues. The role will cover the Hollard Life Assurance Company (HLAC) and Hollard Specialist Life (HSL) licenses. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • The LT HAF role will continuously evolve to keep pace with the changing business environment and actuarial needs. At a minimum, the responsibilities will include:
    • Expressing an opinion to the board of directors on the reliability and adequacy of the calculations of Hollard’s technical provisions (on the prudential supervisory reporting basis and IFRS published reporting basis), and minimum and solvency capital requirements, including on:
    • the appropriateness of the methodologies and underlying models used and assumptions made.
    • the sufficiency and quality of the data used in actuarial calculations.
    • best estimate and associated assumptions against experience when evaluating technical provisions (i.e. review experience investigations and its feed into assumption setting);
    • the accuracy of the calculations.
    • the appropriateness of and impact of assumed future management actions and the effect of risk mitigation instruments.
    • the appropriateness of approximations or judgements used in the calculations due to insufficient data of appropriate quality.
    • Expressing an opinion to the board of directors on the appropriateness of the asset-liability management policy, the underwriting policy and reinsurance and other forms of risk transfer policy; as well as the adequacy of reinsurance and other forms of risk transfer arrangements.
    • Evaluating and providing advice to the board of directors, senior management and other control functions on:
    • where Hollard uses the standardised formula to assess its risks, why that regulatory capital model is an accurate reflection of the insurer’s own risk profile.
    • the development and use of internal models for internal actuarial or financial projections, or for own solvency projections as in the Own Risk and Solvency (ORSA).
    • Hollard’s Investment policy.
    • the financial soundness position, including the impact of any proposed dividend declaration or payment.
    • the actuarial-related matters in the ORSA.
    • the internal controls relevant to actuarial matters.
    • the actuarial soundness of the terms and conditions of insurance contracts (new products as well as reprices or amendments to existing products).
    • Review and sign-off on the Prudential Authority regulatory quantitative and qualitative returns.
    • Assist with applications to the Prudential Authority to change license conditions.
    • Provide an opinion on the liquidity shortfall indicator (LIQ) within the regulatory quantitative returns.
    • Review the Embedded Value and Value of New business methodology and results as required.
    • Attending any board meetings, board committees meetings or other meetings where required.
    • Attending meetings/on-site visits and presenting to the Prudential Authority when necessary.
    • Deriving appropriate stresses and scenarios with management input for the budget process and the ORSA.

    Required Knowledge and Experience    

    • 10+ years of experience in First Line Actuarial / HAF roles.
    • More than 10 years’ experience in a South African Short-term Insurer / Financial Services Industry.

    Knowledge:

    • In-depth understanding of GOI and any other Prudential Authority standards / requirements.
    • In-depth knowledge of South African Long-term Insurance industry.
    • Understanding and application of the Insurance related regulatory requirements.

    Skills:

    • Excellent facilitation, communication including presentation skills.
    • Ability to focus on value adding initiatives and pragmatic approaches to actuarial related matters.
    • Ability to rapidly adapt ways of working to changing stakeholder and business needs.
