    Operator: SBP and Bar Casting - JHB East Rand

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Contribute to the effective manufacturing process of bar casting, in accordance with Rand Refinery's quality and safety standards.
    • Preparing orders on time, at the right quality and in the right quantity.    

    DIVERSITY OF WORK

    • The incumbent is responsible for meeting production during their shift.

    DECISION MAKING

    • Execution of plans as prescribed by the immediate Supervisor.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Production of 1 kg bars, 100 g bars and 12.5 kg as per production requirements
    • Production of 12.53 kg bar within the approved LBMA mass 12.443 – 12.751 kg per bar) and assay give-away and quality.
    • SBP Plant operational duties:
      • Make-up packets under the guidance of the Supervisor.
      • Operating the robot, while ensuring that no granules are spilt in the process.
      • Melting of kilobar on the CIF furnace using moulds as per production requirements.
      • Weigh and grind bar to correct mass to comply with the 5 to 25 mg mass give-away and clean bar if required.
    • Bar Casting Plant operational duties:
      • Melting large bars on CIF furnace using moulds as per production requirements.
      • Clean bars for quality inspection.
    • Always maintain good housekeeping within the plant.
    • Wear the correct PPE at all times and ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly followed and advise team members accordingly.
    • Work efficiently within the team and be able to rotate jobs and equipment upon request.
    • Customer complaints – must be zero/ be kept at a minimum.
    • Melting of material in the induction and granulation furnace.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric certificate qualification.
    • At least 1-2 years’ working experience within a manufacturing environment.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Industrial manufacturing process knowledge.
    • SHEQ knowledge - able to comply and support SHEQ procedures.
    • Technical plant knowledge.
    • Equipment knowledge - understand how to operate equipment safely and effectively.
    • Metal behaviour knowledge - able to determine the state metals are in.
    • Bar casting: basic task for cleaning and preparing bar for QC inspection for mass and physical appearance.
    • SBP: basic task for cleaning and preparing bar for QC inspection for mass and physical appearance - Know when the conditions are correct for these processes.

    Plant Metallurgist - JHB East Rand

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Focus on measuring the Refinery Operation’s efficiencies and develop improvement initiatives for implementation and realization of the improved plant performance.
    • Co-ordinates metal accounting, accuracy, reporting and, metal monitoring.
    • Renders a comprehensive process and metallurgical engineering service on projects/investigations, to all other engineering disciplines involved and the client (source/owner of the project/ investigation).
    • Manages and co-ordinates the technical activities of the Refinery.
    • Evaluates process feasibility hazop, environmental impact, economic and value evaluation studies. May prepare recommendations for capital expenditure for projects.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric Certificate qualification.
    • A Degree (BTech. /BEng. Tech. in Chemical/ Metallurgical Engineering or related (BEng./ BSc. Eng. qualification).
    • A minimum of 7 years’ of working experience within a manufacturing environment/similar, whereby 3 years should be at first-line management level within the Project Management / Operations fraternity.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Risk Management knowledge – able to identify, manage and mitigate risks at source of the material and the supply chain. Contribute to changing and updating Refinery’s as per strategy movement and direction.
    • Team management - able to handle a diverse team and be able to lead and/or be a team player in a team that would deliver results for the department and Rand Refinery.
    • Financial acumen and statistical modelling knowledge -able to budget effectively, interpret financial and statistical information. Draw conclusions, take action. Evaluate profitability of processing materials and advise sourcing and management team on improving profitability.
    • Strategic and action planning knowledge -able to develop and implement relevant strategies and action plans that would help the refinery department move forward and achieve budget intentions. Collate annual business plan and integrate the 5-year plan to ensure that growth strategies are encapsulated for Walk Sure, Walk Far and Walk Tall are achieved. Assist Head of Refinery to translate strategy into achievable steps and communicated.
    • Process plant knowledge - good knowledge of processing plants, equipment, sampling and assaying. Familiarity with different materials processing and understand chemistry of materials and ease of processing.
    • Project Management knowledge- assist Refinery Operations Manager to write compelling business cases and work with all process engineers to ensure process improvement projects are adhered to.
    • Management skills  - proficient use of resources, self-discipline, able to act independently, with minimal supervision, reliable, honest.
    • Trouble shooting skills        Able to diagnose and analyse process problems in plants including sampling and assaying. Be familiar with materials processing.
    •  Good communication skills (written and oral)-The ability to explain technical, financial and statistical information and give instructions to others.
    • Be familiar with both JDE and SAP system-assist in metallurgical accounting and ensure that processes are rigorously followed.
    • Computer literacy- MS Office (Excel and Outlook) and other specialist packages. SAP exposure would be advantageous.
    • Report writing skills - able to produce reports that are timely, accurate, succinct and relevant. 

    DIVERSITY OF WORK

    • The position should deliver capital execution budgets with the specified time, costs and legal requirements.

    DECISION MAKING

    • The incumbent has to make decisions to allow project execution within the OSH Act.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work closely with the HOD on the development of production strategies to deliver on the business strategy.
    • Provide technical direction and guidance for process development and technology strategies.
    • Work with technical assurance team to ensure that the Refinery has the latest standards for evaluation and use the best technique for the materials.
    • Develop, establish, and direct execution of operating procedures to support overall company policies and objectives.
    • Ensure full legal and controls compliance of all aspects of the Department (Machinery, Site, Materials, Project, Safety, Health, Environment).
    • Monitoring and visible business performance reporting on capital and improvement projects for the Refinery. (Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually).
    • Provide support to all information owners and Provides support to maximize throughputs across the Refinery and Service Yard to achieve the smelter financial year targets.
    • Provides adequate troubleshooting within Refinery and Service Yard through checking trend analysis.
    • Monitor the refinery’s Process Efficiencies for gold, silver and raw material consumptions and identify, initiate and execute improvement opportunities.
    • Assist Refinery Operations Manager and Process Leaders with improvements & recommendations to maximise plant utilization with minimal metal losses.
    • Implements methods that enhance cost saving initiatives (i.e. waste reduction, productivity, cost management).
    • Provide technical direction and guidance for process development and technology strategies.
    • Develop models for data collection, profitability models, complete business cases and trade off study documents for information sharing with Senior and/or Junior Management, and Leadership forums.
    • Add valuable input to the budgetary and forecasting process with accurate predictions.
    • Collaborate with Evaluation and Process Engineers in order to evaluate sampling and processing capability for current and future feed materials.
    • Represent the Refinery Management team on technical projects, process improvements and business projects.
    • Work with Sourcing section to formulate profitable contracts for processing at Refinery.
    • Develop, and/or evaluate capital business cases for evaluation and justification for capital investment projects.
    • In support of the capital investment projects, oversee or develop the process related documentation, such as but not limited to P&ID’s, Process Design Criteria, Process Control Philosophy, HAZOP studies to support the design and costing of capital-related projects.
    • Ensure that the commissioning of new capital investments will be conducted in compliance with the required legal requirements.
    • Assist in the development of the refinery operations operational and capital budget.

    Laboratory Analyst - JHB East Rand

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • The purpose of this role is to analyse the samples from external and internal customers according to the set standard operation procedures for the specific task.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK

    • Works within analytical section at an interpretive level, however analytical function is part of the Laboratory.

    DECISION MAKING

    • Open ended, production decisions or recommendations, requiring understanding of analytical processes.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure all samples are analysed to the specific standard operating procedure.
    • Ensure all relative sample information is entered correctly and efficiently into computer systems (LIMS and SAP).
    • Ensure that the correct preparation principles are applied before assaying and sampling Standards and principles.
    • Perform continuous control monitoring to ensure that processes are running smoothly.
    • Issue certificates for the samples when they are of the specified standard.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
    • At least 3-5 years of experience in similar role.
