  • Senior Platform Engineer (Cloud)

    Job Description

    Build high performing, scalable enterprise grade platforms that enable business agility and rapid deployment within an ever-changing business environment.
    This is achieved by embracing system and design thinking to implement platforms leveraging software automation principles and data driven insight.

    • Identify, internally or externally, technologies and patterns to deliver version control to development teams and apply the Old Mutual Cloud Security Controls Standard.
    • Assist the Platform Engineering Product Owner to refine the product backlog, and define new quarterly objectives, informed by the demand of development teams.
    • Own the design of the platform deployment system and associated tools, processes, role assignments, dependencies, and documentation.
    • Ensure software configuration management tooling adheres to the Old Mutual Cloud Security Controls Standard.
    • Facilitate cadence calls with the development teams to understand demand in software configuration management and deployment, in order maintain the Platform Engineering product backlog.
    • Own the execution/implementation of multiple Platform Engineering objectives, per quarter.
    • Develop boilerplate infrastructure-as-code to provision build and deployment environments for software teams.
    • Craft and maintain Platform Engineering documentation, templates and style guides and assist software development teams to adopt standards during delivery.
    • Review technical artefacts (code, templates and documentation) generated by Associate Platform Engineers, Platform Engineers and software development teams.
    • Respond (2nd line) to and resolve support tickets in the Platform Engineering support queue.
    • Facilitate AWS technical enablement workshops to the software development and architecture teams.
    • Craft public-facing artefacts (blog posts, whitepapers, or open-source projects) which can be used by the engineering community outside the organization.
    • Represent Old Mutual at relevant industry events (e.g. Meetups, conferences, webinars etc.), as a speaker or panelist.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Programming diploma/on the job training, with 5+ years of programming experience.
    • Experience working with information architecture and design interfaces.
    • Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle. Knowledge of DevOps advantageous.
    • Familiarity with architecture styles, Microservice and Serverless architectures
    • Knowledge of at least one high-level programming language: Java, C#, C++
    • Ability to produce technical documentation.
    • Technical skills required:
    • Monitoring solutions at scale (any of: Elasticsearch, New Relic, AWS X-Ray, Amazon CloudWatch)
    • Knowledge of LAN and WAN networking concepts (routing and switching), TCP/IP advantageous.
    • Strong knowledge and practical implementation of: 
    • AWS Services: AWS Lambda, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeCommit, AWS CloudFormation
    • Kubernetes
    • Terraform
    • Jenkins
    • Prometheus
    • Grafana
    • Shell (e.g., Bash) scripts are advantageous.

    The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts.

    • Meets monthly sales targets in terms of lending, transactional banking and insurance.
    • Servicing of existing Old Mutual policies such as facilitation of claims and attending to customer complaints and queries in order to meet the Net Promotor Score (NPS) requirements.
    • Check loan application documentation for accuracy, authenticity and compliance to Policy and Procedures as well as completeness
    • Accurately capture all client information on Summit as per loan application and supporting documentation
    • Suspend or reject loan applications to be re-quoted as and when required

    • This role is responsible for research, modelling, analysis and provision of relevant information for listed and unlisted asset classes, as well as for making recommendations on alternative investments. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts.

    Key Result Areas

    • Old Mutual’s Investment Strategy Team has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified investment professional to join the team. The Investment Strategy Team is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of assets invested on behalf of Old Mutual’s customers – with a specific focus on life-wrapped discretionary investment products in South Africa and also in our Africa regions.
    • We are looking for a talented and hard-working individual with excellent analytical and quantitative skills, an in-depth understanding of investments, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • designing, implementing and monitoring policyholder investment strategies, with a particular focus on quantitative modelling, investment and asset class analysis and strategic allocation
    • Ensuring that investment strategies are structured to meet policyholder needs and expectations, including requirements for investment returns, risk management, diversification, liquidity and other relevant factors.
    • Evaluation of new investment opportunities, including in traditional and alternative asset classes.
    • Assisting with setting and monitoring investment mandates and performance, including setting benchmarks and performance targets and setting risk limits.
    • Working with the Old Mutual Investments (OMI) on strategic investment initiatives in order to enhance investment outcomes for policyholders.
    • Supporting asset manager due diligence, selection, and monitoring.
    • Representing policyholder interests on various investment committees.

    Requirements:
    Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

    • CA (SA), Qualified Actuary, MBA, or B Com plus CFA who has at least 5 years of relevant financial services and/or investment experience.
    • Relevant experience includes asset consulting, legal (commercial), investment management, investment product development or other relevant field.
    • Deep interest in investments and especially Alternate asset classes.
    • Passion for producing great investment outcomes for clients, and for protecting them from unnecessary risks and conflicts of interests.
    • Appreciation and understanding of the commercial environment in which Old Mutual operates, and the requirements of Old Mutual’s policyholders and shareholders.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build constructive relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
