    Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor (1 Position) (Job ID: 5997)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Provide study leadership at postgraduate level.
    • Recruit and supervise postgraduate students.
    • Initiate, sustain, and provide quality research outputs.
    • Provide research leadership and mentorship.
    • Attract external funding where possible.

    Inherent requirements:

    Senior Lecturer

    • Proven record of teaching/lecturing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Acted as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
    • An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Recommendations:

    Senior Lecturer

    • Member of/or registration with a professional body.

    Associate Professor

    • Evidence of successful sourcing and management of grant/research funding.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Relevant Field of Industrial Psychology/ Human Resource Management) (Job ID: 5996)

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Teach Industrial Psychology and Human Resources Management modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students
    • Conduct high-quality research, publish in accredited journals, and deliver quality research outputs in line with the faculty’s research strategy.
    • Provide supervision to postgraduate students, Honours, master’s and PhD students.
    • Provide leadership in pursuit of the department and faculty strategic plan with regard to research, teaching, engaged scholarship, and leadership and administration.
    • Perform academic administration pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate subjects - this may include typing, setting, and marking all question papers and memorandums, recording marks and handling student complaints.
    • Serve as a member of various academic committees and perform any other tasks allocated by the Dean and head of the department.
    • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with relevant research, civil society, government, industry, and professional organisations.
    • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    Lecturer

    • A PhD on NQF Level 10 relevant to the field of Industrial Psychology/ Human Resource Management.
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices (SABPP) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) (attached certificate).
    • Proven experience in poster or oral presentation at conferences and publication of articles (indicate on the Cv or attach evidence).
    • Excellent research record as demonstrated in the applicant’s completed PhD.
    • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal (indicate on the Cv or attach evidence).

    Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2025 (One Year Contract Renewable up to 3 Years) - Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education (Job ID:5994)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Conduct innovative research in the following areas: Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Schooling, especially for teaching the sciences in schools; the use of ICTs in Teacher Education; and in School-based Teaching Practice (WIL) in general. 
    • Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
    • The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    • Do limited teaching in the Teacher Education and Teaching Practice programmes, where appropriate.
    • Provide limited supervision and/or co-supervision at Honours, Master’s and/or Doctoral level where appropriate.
    • Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research.
    • Conduct innovative research and obtain evidence- based empirical data on current educational developments in schools associated with the Faculty of Education.
    • Prepare and present papers during seminars and other research events.

    Competencies

    Eligibility requirements:

    • Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State.
    • Graduated with a PhD degree in Education with specialization on the use of Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) in Education within the last five years.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
    • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS Bloemfontein Campus.

    Value of the fellowship:

    • R 240,000 annual fellowship.
    • R 30,000 additional research expenses fund.
