    Component Engineer - (PA 1224)

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    • The release of vehicle body components via engineering processes and systems
    • The resolution of design related problems on all locally manufactured platforms
    • Keep accurate record of part level and software built in production (Bill of Material)
    • Co-ordination of testing and release of components & systems
    • Initiate and drive cost savings on components into production
    • Good problem solving and communication skills and have to function well within a group environment
    • German communication skills will be an advantage

    Education and Experience    

    • National Diploma or Degree in Mechatronics/ Mechanical Engineering
    • 5 year’s experience in Supplier/Quality/ Engineering of automotive components
    • (Development /Improvements / Problem solving)

    ESSENTIAL:

    •  Initiative, be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
    •  Excellent communication skills to all levels
    •  Ability to quickly learn and understand complex components/systems/networks
    •  Good technical problem solving ability 
    •  Computer literate (Microsoft Office tools) 
    •  Knowledge in various plastic/rubber forming technologies required
    •  Willingness to travel and learn German language

    PREFERRED:

    •  Knowledge of automotive components assemblies i.e. front ends, etc.
    •  Problem solving experience related to production and supplier challenges
    •  Bumper development experience would be advantageous 
    •  German language knowledge

    Supervisor Weathering Test (Upington) (PA 1204)

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    • Plan, co-ordinate and manage the Weathering Test Site as defined in the VW Group norm, VW50185.
    • Lead and grow the Weathering Team towards a well-recognized “Centre of Excellence” in the Group.
    • Apply her/his excellent Polymer and material knowledge to give advice to customers on materials, possible material changes and/or production parameters.
    • Keep up with latest trends of automotive materials through self-studies, market observations and networking with material specialists, e.g. Universities, Science Institutes and Automotive Laboratories and Development Centers
    • Constantly seek to broaden his expert knowledge about Polymers, Paints, Rubbers, Composites, Natural Fiber Composites and other Automotive Materials.
    • Constantly communicate with Group customers in German and English, including giving expert advice to Top Management and Board members within the Group.
    • Manage remote Test Sites in South Africa with limited support from the Group or VWSA
    • Benchmarking and support the Weathering activities at other Group sites.
    • Represent Volkswagen of South Africa at all levels during cross-corporate activities, by participating in projects, discussions (e-rooms, conferences) and presentations in German and English.
    • Ensure that the inspections of components and vehicles take place as planned, and documented accurately.
    • Manage the revenue and overhead budgets to ensure that financial targets are achieved.
    • Streamline all administration activities to maximize the time working on cars and components.
    • Manage the workshop, test facilities and equipment as required.
    • To train back-up personnel for all Supervisor functions as agreed with the Manager of the section.
    • Ensure that all Group audit requirements are upheld.

    Education and Experience    

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or suitable tertiary qualification with proven experience in managing/leading Technical Projects.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the testing of automotive components under high UV and temperature conditions.

    Skills, Attributes & Other requirements    
    ESSENTIAL:

    • Must understand material behaviour under extreme Weathering conditions and make improvement recommendations where needed.
    • Must have knowledge of Weathering instruments and be able to interpret the results accurately.   
    • A good international network created through having worked cross divisionally with our worldwide Group customers of the various brands
    • Experience in interfacing positively at all levels, up to the most senior positions in the Group.
    • Read, write and speak English and German.
    • Excellent communication skills at all levels of interfacing departments.
    • Good knowledge of Volkswagen Group products.
    • Understanding of the Group Audit fault rating system, and be able to apply this accurately to test specimen.  
    • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently.
    • Strong Leadership/ Management Skills.
    • Project Management Skills
    • Ability to think at a strategic level.
    • Be innovative, resourceful and analytically minded.

    Technical Project Leader SSA (Specialist) - (PA 1215)

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    •   Manage development of SSA vehicle projects within the division
    •   Technical project lead on key divisional & departmental milestones and deliverables
    •   Facilitating and leading key Engineering and Divisional meetings 
    •   Arrange all development activities are actioned and meets corporate timing milestones
    •   Defining the Engineering development scope ensuring special test requirements are timeously met as per market product specification 
    •   Liaising with local and overseas engineers, project leaders on a regular basis
    •   Represent Product Engineering in corporate meeting giving engineering input to maintain information flow between corporate and engineering team members.
    •   Cooperate with VW Group counterparts by exchanging project status, requiring activities development input in order to ensure purposeful share of responsibilities.
    •   Application of sound project management principles to achieve planned departmental objectives and project milestones

    Education and Experience    

    • A Bachelor of Science Degree or Equivalent in Mechanical / Mechatronics & Electrical.
    • 5 years’ experience in an automotive engineering environment
    • 2 years exposure and utilization of project management systems.

    •   Team player with strong communication, facilitation and organisational skills
    •   Strong project management skills and experience
    •   Good interpersonal skills (negotiation and communication)
    •   Complex problem-solving abilities

    •   Excellent computer skills (MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

    PREFERRED:

    • German language proficiency
