    Project Accountant

    • AltGen is looking for a skilled and experienced Project Accountant to join a renewable energy company based in Stellenbosch. The role will assist with monitoring financial progress of projects, investigating variances, ensuring project billings are issued and payments are collected, and providing feedback to stakeholders regarding financial statuses of projects in accordance with IFRS.

    Responsibilities
    Conducting expenditure analysis on projects:

    • Review and reconcile project financial reporting, ensuring validity, accuracy and completeness against actual project execution
    • Monitor and report on project cost performance against budgets and forecasts
    • Coordinate with project managers, procurement staff, and other stakeholders to ensure that project expenses are properly authorised, documented and recorded in the financial records
    • Review and prepare project cash-flows
    • Prepare and present project cost and variance reports to stakeholders, including senior management
    • Analyse and accurately allocate shared costs among various projects
    • Assess and analyse the impact of resource costs based on time-spent vs budgets

    Financial project accounting:

    • Analyse costs from the project team and determine costs to be expensed or capitalised in accordance with IFRS and tax requirements
    • Setting up asset structures (asset classes, componentisation etc.) in the accounting records for various projects in accordance with IFRS and tax requirements
    • Reviewing and recommending projects / assets that are ready for depreciation in accordance with IFRS and tax requirements
    • Maintain constant communication with the projects and procurement teams to keep abreast with project execution, ensuring financial results are aligned with the associated execution
    • Assessing Work in Progress of projects based on procurement, implementation and project milestone progress
    • Assist with financial audits and other ad-hoc projects as needed

    Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
    • 3–6 years’ experience in project accounting, financial accounting, or project finance, preferably in renewable energy, infrastructure, or construction environments
    • Experience with project reporting, budget vs actual analysis, variance investigations, cash flow forecasting, and financial reporting
    • Working knowledge of IFRS, including cost allocation, capitalisation principles, fixed assets, and audit support
    • Advanced Excel and ERP systems experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work across stakeholders

    Finance Manager

    • AltGen is seeking an experience Finance Manager (Financial Control & Revenue) to join a renewable energy EPC based in Cape Town. The role will be responsible for overseeing project financial performance, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, monitoring project costs and profitability, and providing financial insight to support commercially sound decision-making across a portfolio of solar projects. The Finance Manager will work closely with project managers, procurement teams and senior leadership to drive financial visibility, improve project outcomes and ensure compliance with IFRS and internal control frameworks.

    Responsibilities
    Revenue and Cost recognition:

    • Ensure revenue is recognised in accordance with project milestones, contractual terms and IFRS/IAS guidelines (e.g., percentage-of-completion methods).
    • Track project billing schedules, change orders and customer invoicing to align recognised revenue with actual delivery progress.
    • Assess and review account receivables, ensuring projects are invoiced in accordance with contract timelines
    • Monitor aged receivables and collection performance, reporting trends and highlighting aged receivables to the GFM timeously
    • Maintain accurate project-level financial reports and cost ledgers.
    • Monitor and analyse actual project costs against budgets provided by project managers.
    • Investigate and explain material cost variances, labour overruns, delays or procurement deviations.
    • Ensure procurement data is properly matched to the correct project cost centers.
    • Act as a financial expert to project managers—challenging assumptions, flagging potential overruns and providing financial insight.
    • Review and report gross margins per project monthly, identifying trends, risks, and corrective actions.
    • Provide forward-looking gross profit forecasts, including scenario modelling based on cost fluctuations or delivery risks.
    • Recommend commercial or operational interventions to protect or improve GP.
    • Review and maintain appropriate cash flow forecasts for revenue and related project costs.
    • Review gross margin performance and project profitability trends.
    • Provide commentary on key revenue and cost drivers.

    Financial Reporting

    • Prepare accurate month-end reports and dashboards for finance and executive stakeholders.
    • Maintain financial documentation to support project audits and board-level reporting.
    • Review and challenge management accounts prepared by the Financial Accountant.
    • Review bank reconciliations and ensure variances are resolved timeously.
    • Review monthly journals ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records
    • Assist in providing commentary to the GFM for monthly, quarterly, annual management and Board reports

    Salary Processing & Salary Control Oversight

    • Review Salaries prepared by HR, ensuring accuracy of salary.
    • Review salaries journals to the general ledger.
    • Ensure PAYE and related statutory payroll submissions are accurate and timeously filed.
    • Coordinate salary payment runs and ensure appropriate authorisation controls are followed.
    • Review salary control accounts monthly and ensure discrepancies are resolve.
    • Maintain appropriate payroll documentation and audit trails.

    Tax

    • Prepare monthly tax computation, including forecasts, for reporting.
    • Prepare provisional and final tax computation and ensure all relevant supporting schedules are complete and accurate.
    • Review VAT submissions prepared by the Financial Accountant.

    Compliance and controls

    • Ensure all project accounting practices adhere to internal controls, finance policies, and audit requirements.
    • Review significant journals, reconciliations and accounting adjustments prepared by the Financial Accountant.
    • Escalate material accounting risks and unusual transactions to the GFM.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
    • CIMA, SAICA or SAIPA professional designation
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in project-based environments such as construction, EPC, infrastructure or renewable energy
    • Strong understanding of financial reporting and IFRS
    • Strong commercial and analytical skills
    • Advanced Excel skills are essential

    Group Financial Controller

The role is responsible for ensuring that consolidated financial reporting, statutory compliance, balance sheet integrity, capital distributions, financial risk management, and control frameworks are robust, consistent, and audit-ready. The GFC will provide independent financial governance oversight, ensuring that all financial information presented to the CFO, Board, shareholders, lenders, and external stakeholders is accurate, compliant, and supported by sound judgement.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee consolidated group financial reporting and ensure compliance with IFRS and statutory requirements.
    • Maintain the integrity of the Group’s balance sheet and financial reporting processes.

    Financial Accountant

    Position Overview

    • An established renewable energy EPC company is looking for a skilled Financial Accountant to join its finance team in Cape Town. The role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial control environment, supporting month-end close activities, preparing management accounts, maintaining balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in line with IFRS and statutory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the wider finance team to support audits, tax compliance and financial controls across the business.

    Responsibilities
    Financial Reporting

    • Prepare and maintain all balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigate variances and clear reconciling items.
    • Maintain fixed asset registers and process capitalisation, depreciation and disposal transactions.
    • Prepare monthly management accounts, including the income statement, balance sheet and supporting schedules.
    • Prepare and post monthly journals, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records, including the correct accounting treatment of prepayments.
    • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting accounting records.
    • Investigate and explain SG&A and operating expense variances.

    • Review wage control accounts monthly and resolve discrepancies.

    Tax

    • Prepare and submit VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.
    • Assist with the collation of documentation required for company filings and tax audits.

    Requirements

    • BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification.
    • 1–3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role.
    • Understanding of IFRS and financial reporting principles.
    • Experience with month-end processes, reconciliations and management accounts.
    • Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP B1 or Sage Business Cloud Accounting is advantageous.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
