THE POSITION/JOB:
- Operating the following machines: Milling – Horizontal & Vertical, Conventional centre lathe turning, Boring mill, Surface grinding, Slotting and Drilling
- Calibration and quality assurance
- General safety and housekeeping.
- Scheduled inspections on CMMS generated tasks
- Stock take, labelling, sorting and ordering
- Occasional in-plant measuring where it is not feasible to get an assembly into the workshop
Requirements
THE PERSON MUST:
- Be a qualified Fitter & Turner with a relevant N3 or Technical Matric.
- Have experience on all basic machine tools
- Previous conventional turning and ability to work on a variety of machines such as Boring Mill, Conventional Mills and Lathes, Surface grinders and radial arm drill will be an added advantage.
- Have ability to understand Machine drawings & customer requirements
- Have knowledge of material types & ability to produce good tolerances and finishes on various material types and hardness’s
- Have the ability to prioritize and apply sound judgment when on standby
- Crane drivers license will be and added advantage

Description
The role of the Production Team Manager: Plate Processing is to lead and manage the production team, train and assess employees, collaborate with internal suppliers and customers (Maintenance, Technical, PP&C, Lab, Hot Mill and Final Services).Ensure that the performance plan is enforced in order to achieve the optimum results as defined and measured on the balanced scorecard of the area of responsibility. The incumbent is responsible for optimizing yield, efficiency, productivity, availability and ultimately the cost of production per ton, thus complying with the QCDSM principles.
Requirements
Key Performance Indicator include the following:
- Ensue that the material processed through the team meets the specifications and customers requirements.
- Manager employee performance and conduct PA's twice annually.
- Manage training procedures and documentation is section as per the training Matrix.
- Manage daily, weekly and monthly consumable operating expenses.
- Ensure that the production on the line is optimized by proper planning and scheduling in batches and sizes with the shift production plane to ensure maximum thru-put within the efficacy targets.
- Inspect equipment on a regular bases to avoid breakdowns.
- Manage. investigate and report incidents/ accidents immediately.
- Manage and develop subordinates effectively to ensure a highly motivated, competent and productive team
Qualification:
- National Diploma qualification (NQF Level 6)
- Completion of Team Manager Development Program (TMDP) would be advantageous.
Experience:
- 2-4 Years as a Snr Process Controller/Snr Operator.
- Experience within Manufacturing/steel manufacturing will be advantageous.
Competencies/Skills:
- Knowledge of key processes relating to production, manufacturing defects and breakdowns
- Management principles of QCDSM
- Advantageous: Knowledge of Plate processing production processes, pickling, annealing, shearing, and plasma cutting.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent customer/supplier relations through good communication skills

Description
To succeed the ideal incumbent will also be accountable for effectively performing basic fault finding on machines and maintenance thereof by:
- Ensuring adherence to roll planning schedule, monitoring and addressing quality issues related to the relevant rolls and maintenance tasks.
- Managing delays by ensuring that the efficiency of the Plant is not affected by matters related to the roll grinding tasks.
- Taking control for the planning and organizing of the workload, taper coupling spares, other relevant consumables, machining of rolls and grinding, etc.
- Reporting all relevant matters including providing feedback on the system i.e. booking; rolls status, delays and defect.
- Monitoring and inspecting the quality of rolls to prevent unplanned roll changes at mills and proactive maintenance of machines.
- Identifying and differentiating between defects as well as ensuring that all relevant defects are addressed according to inspection rule sets to prevent non-conformances and tolerances.
Requirements
- Minimum qualification, grade 12 (Math’s and Science) or N3 coupled with 4 years’ experience in the steel industry; handling grinding of rolls and maintenance.
- Must be a qualified Fitter/Fitter and Turner and Roll Grinder experience will be an added advantage.
- Must have the ability to read and understand drawings, the use relevant measuring equipment and working with close tolerances.
- Must be computer literate, have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with high attention to detail and physical fitness is critical for the role.

Description
The key function of this role is to plan experimental procedures for investigations. This includes customer complaints and investigations, engineering failures, plant investigations.
- Operation of metallurgical microscopes, image analysis software, Excel, word, access, PowerPoint software, plant software e.g. P6, Supervisory.
- Designing testing programmes.
- Technical writing, Analysis and interpretation of metallurgical test results and relating to plant and/or customer processing and operation - Metallurgical microscopes (scanning electron and optical) are everyday tools used in all investigations.
- Data-base systems are used to gather plant data to assist in investigations.
- Computer skills are required to analyse data and to compile reports.
- Analytical and interpretive skills required to determine causes of process or end use problems, project planning
Requirements
- BSc or B Eng. in Metallurgy with minimum of 6 - 8 years’ relevant experience.
- Knowledge of steel/stainless steel product and/or Smelting/Refining of other materials
- Working experience in heavy/large manufacturing processes related to Steel manufacturing, quality assurance and control, project management
- Experience with POLC principles and QCDSM

THE POSITION:
Team Manager Fleet (Supply) is responsible for Administration, Planning, and Supply Chain functions in the Fleet workshop. Ensuring maintenance of all tyre operations and tyre maintenance, stores, stock levels, supplier development, contracts management and fuel management, liaison with customers and suppliers on Reliability Centred Maintenance matters, in addition managing people, ensure that the maintenance plan is executed to achieve the maximum outputs as negotiated and reflected in the balanced score card of the Columbus Plant. Therefore, essentially reducing the production cost per ton by improving the yield, quality, efficiency and availability while adhering to the QCDSM principles
Requirements
THE PERSON:
- Must have People Management Experience including management of the teams’ quality of work.
- Must have excellent communication, coaching, analytical, reporting and problem solving skills.
- PC literacy i.e. Microsoft office documents, experience and knowledge.
- Be in possession of a N4 certificate minimum with Maths & Science and studying towards N6 or relevant post matric qualification with Mechanical trade.
- Must have at least 12 years experience in the maintenance environment ( Fleet experience will be an added advantage)
- Must be able to work under pressure to meet critical targets and deadlines.
- Should be an independent individual who can take initiative, solve problems, make decisions and be pro-active.
- Should be willing to do stand-by and be physically fit.
- Be a strong Team player able to utilise human relations skills to coach and motivate a team members.
- Must be able to communicate professionally at all levels (oral & written) and network internally with our suppliers and customers.
