    Manager Cargo and Business Development

    Job Purpose Statement    

    • To contribute to the growth of cargo traffic through DTPC Terminal.

    Key Performance Areas    
    Client Retention Management    

    • Coordinate and schedule regular meetings with key industry player’s internal and external stakeholder’s e.g. marketing division, Freight Forwarders etc. 
    • Maintain on-going open channels of communication to maintain client relationships 
    • Support team in consulting with industry players regarding business opportunities
    • Understand the client’s strategic objectives and how to align internal resources to meet those objectives consistently. 

    Logistic Solutions Proposals    

    • Analyse historic and current data and propose logistic solutions based on key industry player needs and requirements.
    • Provide formal business cases and proposals to key potential clients 
    • Propose business strategy and implement logistic solutions plan
    • Create and maintain workflow for similar industry players 
    • Forecast and report on future needs and requirements.

        Cargo Terminal Marketing

    • Increase awareness of DTPC service and infrastructure. E.g. workshops, Trade fair, exhibitions etc. 
    • Presenting integrated solutions for tenants and operators within Dube TradePort precinct, TradeZone, AgriZone and Cargo Terminal    
    • Work closely with Marketing team regarding increasing awareness for written marketing content.

    Cargo Throughput    

    • Research global and local trends to identify and facilitate new business opportunities for increased cargo throughput 
    • Assist in route development work carried out by DTPC and its partners 
    • Report on cargo industry developments and recommendations
    • Generate a consolidated  business unit report and submit to Senior Manager Cargo Operations and Development.

    Budgets    

    • Contribute towards annual budget planning and forecasting for the unit
    • Manage and control the budget for the business unit 
    • Provide financial report for the unit.

    People Management    

    • Management of the Cargo and Business Development team 
    • Evaluate quarterly and annual performance against performance management agreements and give constructive feedback
    • Plan for and manage all recruitment needs for the Cargo and Business Development team
    • Determine training and development requirements for the Cargo and Business Development team
    • Provide coaching and mentoring support for the Cargo and Business Development team to achieve their maximum potential
    • Contribute to improving staff morale and increasing productivity
    • Provide leadership that demonstrates the values of the organisation
    • Working with the HR department to handle all intra and inter-division disputes and conflicts
    • Ensure adherence to PFMA and other legislative requirements and company policies
    • Facilitate strategic sessions and workshops to discuss business unit performance.

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Behavioural Competencies Required

    • Degree or equivalent in Transport and Logistics, or similar
    • 5 years’ experience in air cargo management
    • 10 years’ experience in the air cargo environment within aviation industry
    • Proven experience in air cargo management
    • Proven experience and track record in business development in airfreight industry
    • Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport: South Africa (CILTSA) would be advantageous
    • Code EB Driver’s Licence and must be willing to travel to attend external customer meetings and visits
    • Comprehensive knowledge of local and global airfreight industry 
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry
    • Comprehensive knowledge of supply chain processes
    • Multi-cultural strength- working across and leveraging where possible
    • Experience in writing of business cases and proposals
    • Computer Literacy: MS Office: Word, PowerPoint and Excel

    Manager Investment Promotion

    Job Purpose Statement    

    • To promote DTPC’s SEZ as a preferred investment destination and target strategic investments in line with the DTP SEZ strategic objectives. Further, package a suite of incentives and support measures for investors and coordinate with all relevant internal stakeholders including the hosting of foreign & local incoming investors.

    Key Performance Areas    

    Investment Promotion    

    • Identify prospective investors within specific sectors and subsectors, to actively promote DTPC investment opportunities.
    • Engaging stakeholders locally and abroad to develop investor targeting strategies and proactive promotional plans in each priority sector.
    • Implementing investment promotional strategies across DTPC various sectors.
    • Identify promotional platforms for investment promotion. 
    • Preparation of promotional material for marketing purposes.
    • Coordinating investment promotion initiatives with stakeholders for joint promotion activities
    • Organize investor presentations as well as site visits and follow up activities.
    • Following-up with investors to facilitate their investments in conjunction with the Investment Facilitation Manager.
    • Collaborating with other investment agencies (i.e. DTI, TIKZN).
    • Undertaking investment promotion projects through direct marketing efforts.
    • Providing investment marketing assistance.
    • Hosting of inward missions and delegations.
    • Organize general awareness creation as well as sector specific events for business discussions between DTPC, local and foreign companies on specific investment opportunities.
    • Promoting DTPC offerings at industry events. 

    Lead Generation    

    • Packaging targeted project opportunities per country, sector and company.
    • Working with the Sector Specialist compile detailed country reports and market surveys of targeted countries.
    • Generating leads through industry interaction, global company databases, etc. Maintain an up-to-date database of companies interested in expanding/diversifying their operations. 
    • Researching potential leads from business directories, web searches, or digital resources.
    • Develop business cases for prospective investors.
    • Identifying, approaching and liaising with companies both locally and abroad with direct investment potential.
    • Attending events focused on investments promotion and business support services (conferences, exhibitions, inward and outward missions, seminars, sector conferences, Business Chamber events, exhibitions, etc.)
    • Identify and organize the participation in international and local fairs.
    • Arrange and facilitate meetings between prospective investors, DTPC and other stakeholders.
    • Following-up with investors to facilitate their investments in conjunction with the Investment Facilitation Manager.
    • Responding to investor needs by drafting response proposals.
    • Conduct stakeholder lobbying.

    Investment Support

    • Attending to investor enquiries.
    • Pre-Screening and assessment of investor projects.
    • Reviewing of proposals, business plans, reports etc. and make necessary recommendations to relevant departments.
    • Providing ongoing support to investors throughout the planning and project establishment phase.
    • Provide information to foreign investors on policies and procedures governing foreign investment in South Africa.
    • Liaising and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders/partners to secure the appropriate level of support for clients.
    • Ensure business chambers and associations memberships is procured and managed.

    Investment Reports    

    • Preparing regular written progress reports on the investment promotion activities.
    • Preparing memorandums for DTPC committees.
    • Compiling and managing the investment pipeline.

    Budgets    

    • Contribute towards annual budget planning and forecasting for the unit.
    • Manage and control the budget for the business unit.

    People Management    

    • Mentor and guide team to ensure deliverables within given timelines.
    • Supervision of investment promotion team to ensure that activities are delivered and targets are met.

    • Plan for and manage all recruitment needs for the team.
    • Determine training and development requirements for the team.
    • Contribute to improving staff morale and increasing productivity.
    • Provide leadership that demonstrates the values of the organisation.

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Behavioural Competencies Required

    • Degree or equivalent in Marketing, Business management or Administration.
    • Post graduate qualification will be ad added advantage.
    • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience of which five (5) must be in a management position. 
    • 5 years’ experience in leading anu managing a team.
    • Proficient computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
    • Code EB Driver’s Licence.
    • Must be able to travel extensively within South Africa and abroad.
    • Excellent marketing and promotional skills.
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. 
    • Strong organizational skills. Versatility, ability to multi task and meet deadlines. 
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
    • Ability to work as a team leader and member with leadership skills for coaching and developing employees. 
    • Mature and good communicator with adequate negotiating skills.
