    Intellectual Property Analyst (15/C4)

    Key Performance Areas

    Financial recovery & sustainability

    • Cost Savings: identify opportunities to reduce costs associated with IP management, such as patent maintenance fees, litigation costs, and licensing expenses.
    • IP Portfolio Optimization: Optimize IP portfolios to ensure alignment with business objectives, reduce costs, and improve ROI (Return on Investment).
    • Revenue Generation: Help identify opportunities to generate revenue through IP licensing, sales, or other monetization strategies.
    • IP Risk Management: identify and mitigate IP risks, such as patent infringement, trademark dilution, or copyright piracy.

    Business Continuity and Efficiency

    • Assist in the development and implementation of relevant policy, processes and procedures.
    • Compile information, record and report on Necsa IP statistics and participate in the organisational reporting process;

    Requirements

     Qualifications

    • Scientist with an appropriate B.Sc. Hons. degree, or

    Section Head/Team Leader: Metrology and Calibration (Hay Level 16/D1)(Internal & External)

    Key Performance Areas:

    Financial Recovery and Sustainability

    • Coordinate continuous improvement initiatives to ensure objectives are met within the budgeted scope, cost, timeframe, and specified deliverables
    • Plan and coordinate the laboratory’s expenditures, reporting any deviations to the Manager, and implement corrective actions as agreed upon with the Manager.
    • Initiate the procurement process for consumables, materials, and other lab requirements, while maintaining optimal inventory levels in accordance with budget availability and constraints.
    • Supervise all processes related to lab test result reporting to ensure effective, timely (90% TAT), and accurate reporting (<2.5% returns) to customers.
    • Participate in the review and revision of customer contracts and price lists, providing credible feedback to the manager within the prescribed timeframe.

    Stakeholder and Customer Management

    • Collaborate with other Section Heads on matters of common interest to ensure the delivery of excellent customer service, including multidisciplinary tasks and initiatives.
    • Build strong relationships with both internal and external customers, ensuring timely notifications (directly or via CRM) are provided when there are delays in the lab.
    • Prepare statistical and summary reports to serve as inputs for periodic departmental management reporting requirements.

    • Ensure that stock levels are maintained to prevent interruptions to service delivery due to instrument or equipment failures, and address any issues encountered as quickly as possible.
    • Ensure that all records related to the maintenance of resources are kept up to date, enabling management to make informed decisions on upgrades, expansions, and replacements based on available data. Contribute to proposals for upgrades, resource duplication, and replacements.
    • Ensure that stock control and supplier records are properly maintained, allowing management to make informed decisions on preferred suppliers, specifications, annual procurement plans, and supplier contracts based on available data.

    • Must be a registered Scientist or possess relevant credentials to be registered as a member of a professional body, e.g. the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals.

    Experience: 

    • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in a Calibration & Metrology laboratory.

    Foreman: Facilities and Planning (Hay Level 14/C3) (Internal & External)

    Key Performance Areas:                     

    • Effective Maintenance of NTP facilities, building infrastructure according to policies and procedures, ensure that NTP’s needs in this regard are met.
    • Provide facilities management support for existing and new infrastructure development.
    • Obtain Copies from Design and Drawing Services for new and old drawings relating to the infrastructure.
    • Consult Electrical Engineering Services for electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
    • Configuration SHEQ documents for control of Building and Civil Projects.
    • Co-Ordinate Maintenance Services for routine ventilation (Air-conditioning), plumbing and general maintenance projects.
    • Execute office space allocations and utilization.
    • Ensure that customer’s requirements are met within the compliance framework assigns and manage NTP parking bay allocation.
    • Ensure that routine inspections are done on buildings, utilities and areas outside NTP facilities.
    • Identify and schedule preventative maintenance and repairs.
    • Coordinate all corrective/preventative maintenance pertaining to buildings and related utilities.
    • Ensure all building systems are checked and tested regularly and maintained in accordance with supplier specifications.
    • Arrange for recycled waste disposal.
    • Supervise and Escort sub-contractors.
    • Log calls and arrange for Pest & Weed Control.
    • Log calls and follow up on outstanding requests.
    • Responding appropriately and manage emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
    • Coordinate all telephone services to ensure functionality and accommodate new    requirements.
    • Ensure maintenance on all of NTP’s garden services are rendered as per requirements.
    • Ensure that all equipment bought through the suppliers/contractors are inspected and properly labelled by maintenance according to the health and safety standards.
    • Review utilities consumption and strive to minimize costs.
    • Inspect building structures to determine the need for repairs or renovation.
    • Oversee the total infrastructure of NTP Facilities, i.e. roads, parking, signage and gardens (incl. contracting external service providers when required for general maintenance, repairs or upgrades) to optimize operations within specified cost, timeframes and safety standards.
    • Ensure that all fixed assets in NTP facilities when moved, e.g. furniture, office equipment, plant equipment, for purposes of depreciation, cost management, and control (security) of assets are recorded at Finance.
    • Obtain quotations for goods or services.
    • Submit purchase requisitions on workflow and obtain approval via line management.
    • Procure goods or services in accordance with procurement policies, procedures and legal requirements.
    • Verifies that goods and services delivered are within specifications and according to the requirements.
    • Ensure invoices and acceptance certificates for payment are signed off for services rendered and approved for payment by FM Co-Coordinator.
    • Resolve issues and solve problems related to maintenance delivery issues to preserve a positive image of the NTP.
    • Ensure appropriate project controls and processes are in place.
    • Track and report on project milestones and provide regular status reports.
    • Ensure that Service Level Agreements are in place with all suppliers.
    • Monitoring of service levels and work performed by contractors follow up on any deficiencies.
    • Ensure that all building areas are in compliance with OHSA, with emergency exits clearly marked.
    • Ensure that personal protective equipment is issued and maintained on a regular basis.
    • Ensure that the facility-related safety issues that arise at the Health and Safety committee are resolved.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor of Technology/ Diploma in Facilities Management or equivalent.
    • Formal Project/ Planning Management Qualification (would be an added advantage)

    • 2+ years’ technical experience in Facility Management, Projects, Contracts, Property Management, Construction Management and Planning office Management.

    Artisan: Mechanical (Hay Level 12/C1) (Internal & External)

    Key Performance Areas           

    Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

    • Assist the mechanical section head with management of the mechanical maintenance workshop and subordinates (2 Artisans 1 Assistant, 2 Students, ±20 contractors and all SAFARI-1 personnel for mechanical maintenance related tasks), planning and coordinating maintenance activities and job cards as required in accordance with the various specifications of the SAR, maintenance programmes, legislative and regulatory requirements.
    • The primary task is to ensure that all scheduled maintenance activities, performed during shutdown periods, are attended to and completed in time and accurately. Any breakdowns need to receive immediate attention and often require innovating and original ideas in order to find solutions for sometimes complex problems.
    • Routine mechanical maintenance on pumps, fans, motors (mechanical aspects), valves, compressors, building, hand tools, reactor components and systems as indicated in the various maintenance programs.
    • Tasks relating to work that can be performed irrespective of reactor operation are for example, preparations for maintenance activities during shutdowns, installation and commissioning of equipment, production of small and modification of existing items, etc.
    • Purchasing - Controls purchasing of materials/spares for all upgrades/modifications and non-routine maintenance. Liaises with suppliers to ensure that the most suitable item or equipment is obtained at the best possible price.
    • Support all members of the maintenance team as required. Support with maintenance on radiation facilities.
    • Routine and statutory inspections of pumps, fans, overhead cranes and ladders, building etc.
    • Supervision and assistance to riggers during inspections of lifting equipment.
    • Support with modification of reactor components and equipment.
    • Ensure that maintenance equipment is in good state and use calibrated equipment, when required.
    • Perform specialised task as requested on the maintenance request programme.
    • Follow-up preventive and corrective actions as required from the maintenance request programme.
    • Manufacture of small items and components w.r.t. the above mentioned.
    • Report on event / non-conformances investigation.
    • Maintain an effective documentation and records system on completed maintenance work.
    • Prepare work procedures and checklists (i.e. commissioning –plans, calibration checklists, work procedures, etc.), including the updating of mechanical drawings.
    • Assist and support with ensuring the continual upgrading and revision of the relevant mechanical maintenance documentation and programs (RR-MPR-0003, etc.)
    • Administrate the maintenance store(s) to ensure that critical items are available and controlled as required.
    • Provide training to all groups concerned in SAFARI-1 regarding new and existing equipment and maintenance programmes.
    • Support QHSE management system requirements and continuously ensure compliance through ISO and other standards. Also provide support during compliance audits, both internal and external.
    • Keep abreast of developments in own subject by attending colloquia, courses, training sessions and through literature.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Qualifications

    • Qualified Artisan.
    • Valid code 08 drivers licence and own transport.
    • The incumbent must be medically fit to qualify as a radiation worker and chemical worker.

    Experience

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance in nuclear and support facilities with knowledge of aspects related to quality assurance and environmental control systems (regulatory and legislative requirements) in a nuclear facility.
    • Machining experience.
    • Computer literate.
