    General Assistant (Press-Sheetfed)

    Introduction

    • Montague Gardens is seeking to appoint 8 x General Assistants on Fixed Term Contract within the Press Sheetfed department. The successful incumbents will report to the Shift Leader - Press Sheetfed & Digital.

    Job description

    • Responsible for assisting the Printers to obtain the correct quantities of commercially acceptable printed sheets
    • Assist the Printers in attending to defects
    • Assist with maintenance 
    • Adhering to standard operating procedures 
    • Ad-hoc tasks that include general housekeeping and general assistant duties from time to time

    Bindery Shift Leader

    Introduction

    • Novus Print: Montague Gardens is seeking to appoint a diligent Bindery Shift Leader with a high regard for detail, who can ensure high quality product output and productivity, to meet production targets and quality standards as well as ensure Health & Safety regulatory compliance with the Bindery environment.

    Job description

    • Oversee the bindery operations. Assess machines, processes, scheduling, crews, training and procedures to maximise productivity, minimize cost and minimize waste.
    • Work closely with the production team and scheduling team to coordinate product requirements.
    • Issue requests for maintenance and following through to ensure the work is completed in a timely manner based on clear priorities.
    • Strictly manage overtime. Ensuring correct paperwork is submitted to the payroll department.
    • Prepare daily schedules for the equipment and staff, implement accordingly and monitor. Immediately advise Manager of any issues arising related to productivity, equipment, personnel, delivery or quality. Take immediate action to resolve concerns as they occur and take steps to prevent similar problems from re-occuring.
    • Ensure their own assigned goals are clear and completed per timelines and expectations. Assign goals to supervisors and ensure they are completed per timelines and expectations.
    • Work closley with management team to implement and sustain the company policies and goals.
    • Ensure adherence to all general health and safety aspects as per OHSA. Ensure housekeeping activities are completed.
    • Ensure the annual scheduling of leave. Assure the proper level of machine capacity/personnel is available as required throughout the year. Schedule to avoid short staff situations and overtime.
    • Enforce all preventative maintenance programs and assure optimum machine functionality.
    • Oversee quality control, quality assurance and waste control functions.

    Minimum requirements

    • Mechanised Bookbinder Trade.
    • Management Development Program (advantageous).
    • Industrial Relations/Labour Relations certificate (advantageous).
    • At least 5 years general experience in the bindery environment after qualification.
    • At least 2 years experience as a journeyman (supervisor) in both commercial and magazine environment.

    Guillotine Operator

    Introduction

    • Novus Print: Montague Gardens is currently seeking to appoint 2x experienced individuals to take on the role of Guillotine Operator in the Sheetfed Department on a 3-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidates will report to the Press Shift Leader.

    Job description

    • Read work orders to determine setup specifications and instructions
    • Operate the guillotine machine following the correct standard operating procedures
    • Set up and operate machines that perform trimming on printing jobs
    • Check that quantities and size of the job are as required during the guillotine operations
    • Install and adjust machines devices i.e knives
    • To cut and trim reams of paper and trim printed material to given size for further processing
    • Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and/or adjustments 
    • Ensure quality control checklists are completed and kept up to date
    • Meet specific job specifications and quality standards 
    • Maintain daily production records
    • Basic preventative maintenance 
    • Maintain general health and safety standards in the production environment
    • Adhoc general assistance on all machines
    • Adhering to all health and safety requirements

    Speed Master Printer

    • Novus Print: Montague Gardens is seeking to appoint 2 x Speed Master Printers on a 3 Months Fixed-Term Contract to operate machinery within the Sheetfed Division. The successful incumbents will report to the Shift Leader - Press.

    Job description

    • Responsible for preparation, running (printing of magazines and commercial work); fault finding, colour and  registration control of the lithography printing presses. 
    • Operate the printing press at set production rates and standards.                              
    • Preventative maintenance.  
    • Maintain general health and safety standards in the production environment.   
    • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained.

    • A qualified Artisan in the relevant Lithography trade and Matric certificate

    • Responsible for the execution of project driven electrical and electronic installations and maintenance according to SABS regulations
    • Assess the maintenance and electrical requirements of jobs assigned and allocated 
    • Execute and attend to electrical maintenance tasks, equipment and breakdowns
    • Adhere to safety procedures, operation of equipment and report unsafe practices
    • Regularly conduct plant inspections and carry out planned maintenance schedules
    • Conduct monthly safety inspection of equipment 
    • Providing technical support to the mechanical and production departments
    • Fault inspection of machinery including PLC, AC and DC drives
    • Willing to work on standby based on operational requirements  

    Minimum requirements

    • N6, T3 or S4 certificate or equivalent electrical trade qualification
    • At least 5 years’ experience within an electrical/electronic maintenance environment is essential
    • Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, electrical regulations as well as applicable municipal bylaws
    • Knowledge of and exposure to fault finding and repairs on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment will be an advantage
    • Knowledge of computerized maintenance systems 
    • The incumbent must have gained skills and knowledge in a FMCG environment in the following areas: printed circuit board to component level; PLC programming; project management; AC and DC drives and experience working with contractors and suppliers

    Job description

    • Ensure the availability of job material, job cards and correct pallet tickets
    • Ensuring the quality of the logs and pallets produced
    • Basic maintenance and cleaning of the stacker
    • Doing quality checks and informing the Printer of any faults 
    • Adhere to all health and safety requirements
    • Manually packing sections to the pallets when there are jams and /or spoils
    • Log all problems and faults with the Senior Printer
