    Category Mgmt Manager- Facilities

    Position Purpose

    • Accountable for category strategy development, supplier negotiation and strategy execution for all related categories to their cluster, with expectation to be involved in supporting these activities with the team
    • Accountable for analysis and evaluation of internal demand factors and external supply market dynamics to develop and execute the category strategy

    Role Overview

    Desktop Support Analyst- FTC

    Position Purpose

    • To provide a single point of contact for end-users to receive technical support of information technology equipment at the TPL sites that he/she will be supporting, by installing, diagnosing, repairing, and upgrading all computer hardware and software as well as disaster recovery, business continuity planning, business phone solutions and security solutions to ensure optimal workstation performance of critical small systems and data servers. To provide continual and reliable desktop support for all TPL users in the in order that all the required business activities can continue functioning. This includes all facets of the Desktop environment in order to achieve no downtime and zero call backs. Moreover, the functions of this position have become multi-functional Desktop Engineers supporting hardware, software, servers, printers, multimedia, networking and mobility and video conferencing.

    Position Outputs

    Trainee Train Assistant

    Position Purpose

    • Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient driving/handling of all different types of trains/locomotives consists (airbrake, vacuum, high speed, heavy haul and passengers) to ensure that the customers freight/cargo reaches its destination in good condition, on time, in order to enable the organisation  to satisfy the customer needs.

    Position Outputs

    • Sign on duty at designated workplace and be allocated duties to be performed for the duration of the shift.  Determine which locomotive to be prepared.  Obtain and place equipment on locomotive.  Check and supplement prescribed equipment.  Clean working area  Assist with starting up of locomotive as prescribed assist with locomotive brake tests.  Couple locomotive  Sign on duty  Despatch locomotives

    • Execute shunting activities in sidings and enroute according to directives to enhance safe working procedures.  Obtain works order.  Perform shunting/placing/removing of trucks as per works order.  Update vehicle list  Place and clear load/empty trucks at siding
    • Assist the train driver enroute to ensure the safe movement of the tarin from a required point to the destination, without delays or damage to locomotives, wagons, infrastructure track and other equipment, to ensure predictable service.  Verbally compare signal positions and display with train driver.  Observe proceeding trains patrol locomotives.  Reset locomotive trip outs.  Observe safe running of train.  Protect train during incidents.  Assist Train Driver during emergency circumstances.
    • Comply to safety standards and laid down instruction to ensure that he is well motivated and competent.
    • Provide accurate feedback timeously to the Train Driver regarding any incidents and deviations along the route.
    • Assist in performing various administration duties.
    • Complete the Train journal and submit to the Section Manager at sign – off after every shift to ensure timeous and accurate processing of monthly salary.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Position Purpose

    • To ensure the optimal utilisation of high voltage overhead track equipment by performing maintenance, alterations, construction and repairs to overhead track equipment, transmission line and negative return circuits according to prescribed quality and safety standards in live and dead working conditions.

    Building Supervisor

    Position Purpose

    • This role is intended at the oversight of daily operations and maintenance of Transnet Real Estate of both internal and external portfolio.
    • The primary role of the Building Manager is to take full responsibility for and to ensure that the buildings under his responsibility are maintained in pristine condition. This is achieved by putting in place the Planned Maintenance Programme and responding timeously and efficiently to ad hoc repairs required. The secondary role of the Building Manager is to facilitate communications between the Facilities Management department and the occupants and users of all the buildings, providing solutions for related problems
    • The role is critical in liaising with tenants and service providers, it coordinates and manages maintenance, housekeeping, and security activities, and ensure the facilities infrastructure and assets meet regulatory standards and codes.
    • To assist and engage the Facilities Managers as well as support the property managers in the planning, management and monitoring of all aspects related to the management of the portfolio and inspection of work to ensure that quality standards are maintained or improved. Also, to ensure strong customer relationships are built and expectations are met and managed

    • Take responsibility for the maintenance of all critical equipment in buildings. 
    • Provide services and support in a high quality, cost-effective manner by motivating the maintenance workforce. 
    • Maintains accurate records with regard to annual inspection of equipment and general preventative maintenance including rotational work assignment and over-time allowances and staff related matters. 
    • Perform quality control checks by checking foyers, building restrooms, hallways, and offices to make sure that trash is taken out, sinks are clean.
    • Inspect the building to make sure that all systems are working properly by checking the heating system, air condition system, hot water system, check for any lights that are not working and for any maintenance requests. Keep an open line of communication with administration. 
    • Highlight and report on all minor repairs in building and in grounds as needed, such as repairing, maintenances requests, tenant concerns, installations, etc. as needed. Coordinate with support services that are working on the building and report discrepancies to the facilities department. 
    • This position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of building custodial staff, to include assigning tasks, providing training, and auditing of work performance.

    Qualifications and Experience

    •  NQF 6 Diploma in Property Management or Real Estate Management  5 years’ solid experience the property management environment.  Experience in managing tenants is essential.  Driver's license

    Executive Manager: Solution Dev Services

    Position Purpose

    • The Executive Manager: Capacity Development Services, is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the department,
    • The Executive Manager: Capacity Development Services is responsible for freight logistics capacity solutions development though transport network simulation and optimization which incorporate commercial management within the transportation / logistics environment, 
    • The Executive Manager: Capacity Development Services leads the Capacity Development Services unit that is the kernel for the development of capacity solutions for the Transnet capital portfolio on the whole, by translating Transnet and / or Operating Division requirements into the solution in response to the problem / opportunity statements defined.

    Position Outputs

    • Provide high level, strategic recommendations and advice on potential capacity solutions to address the problem / opportunity based on the application of the latest and best practice technologies and processes (e.g. supply chain analysis, engineering development, systems interface planning, train dynamic and supply chain simulations)
    • Develop, direct and execute concept & pre-feasibility project studies for Transnet, using the Transnet Project Lifecycle Process (PLP) to identify and develop the most viable, total cost of ownership capacity solution (risk-based multi criteria analysis of technical, operational, social, environmental, financial and economic benefits/dis-benefits)
    • Provide expert leadership by consulting with relevant Transnet stakeholders in order to accurately articulate and define the capacity development problems/opportunities based on Transnet’s needs and requirements as well as the approved capital pipeline derived through framework planning and research
    • Provide high level, strategic recommendations and advice on the appropriate interdisciplinary approach, for example project or programme lifecycle, for the investigation of the solutions to address the problem / opportunity
    • Provide expert leadership and provide support to projects in the execution and implementation phases, e.g. supply chain analysis & simulations
    • Ensure strategic and capital pipeline alignment by continuously updating and interfacing with relevant Transnet Group and Operating Division stakeholders
    • Ensure effective office governance by ensuring reports on progress are comprehensively prepared and presented
    • Ensure adherence to governance processes; compliance to applicable policies and associated risks identified, quantified and reported to relevant governance bodies
    • Manage deliverables in the Solution Development Services Unit within prescribed deadlines in the context of competing priorities
    • Ensure that required reporting on interventions are prepared and submitted to relevant governance structures
    • Implement and maintain adequate controls of Capacity Development Studies budget with pro-active and prudent cost containment and adherence to Transnet finance and accounting policies and procedures

    • Conduct all performance planning sessions and compile Performance Management Plans per Transnet requirements and ensure staff are managed in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and legal requirements.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • BSc. or Bachelor’s degree in the Built Environment or relevant BSc degree,
    • Post graduate studies to masters level (e.g. MBA, MBL, MPA, MPM) would be an Advantage,
    • Professional registration with a Built Environment Professional Body would be an advantage,
    • At least 10 years senior management experience of business, investment, financial and freight logistics capacity solutions development, transport network simulation, supply chain analysis and simulations,
    • At least 5 years of successfully leading programme / project teams in a major capital investment environment and in developing, directing and executing concept & refeasibility project studies,
    • 5 years proven experience in a Systems Engineering / Decision Support environment will be an Advantage.
