    IFRS Technical Junior Manager (JHB Illovo)

    • BDO South Africa has a vacancy for an IFRS Technical Junior Manager in our IFRS Technical Team in our Johannesburg/Cape Town office.
    • The primary purpose of the IFRS Technical Junior Manager role is assistance with providing technical accounting support to audit and advisory teams (internally); developing training material and presenting training internally and to external clients as well as preparation for and participation in local and global technical accounting specialist groups.

    The IFRS Technical Junior Manager will inter-alia be responsible for:

    • Technical accounting consultations with audit teams and/or clients
    • Draft technical accounting opinions
    • Draft and distribute communications regarding changes to IFRS methodology, tools, standards and procedures
    • Draft thought leadership articles for internal and external publication
    • Assistance on implementation projects for new standards (advisory engagements)
    • Prepare and present IFRS training to staff as well as clients
    • Take responsibility of the necessary client engagement management activities from start to finish (e.g. client onboarding, including the relevant risk management procedures; WIP monitoring and invoicing)

    We are looking for candidates who would:

    • Analyse transactions and develop views on the appropriate IFRS treatment of such transactions, based on research conducted
    • Perform research regarding acceptable accounting treatment in fairly straightforward accounting queries
    • Develop and present technical accounting training material
    • Research new accounting standards and publications and summarise internal views and consultations
    • Work as part of an integrated growing team

    Requirements:

    • B.Com Honours;
    • CA(SA) or similiar
    • A sound knowledge of all IASB accounting standards as well as a wide general knowledge of legislation and regulations that could affect financial reporting.

    IFRS Technical Senior Manager (JHB Illovo)

    Primary purpose of the role

    • Advise, consult, assist and support partners, managers, audit staff, and other BDdepartments on requirements and practical applications of accounting standards

    Job Description

    • Provide advice tpartners, managers, audit staff and other BDdepartments on requirements and practical application of accounting standards.
    • Consult with BDGlobal when deemed necessary
    • Provide answers taccounting issues raised on the technical help desk
    • Advise clients on impact of new standards and amendments and advise on practical implementation
    • Provide written formal opinions when requested
    • Assist partners in replying tIRBA queries regarding accounting standards
    • Assist clients in replying tquestions arising from JSE pro-active monitoring
    • Provide first-line support on practical application of Companies Act in sfar as it affects financial reporting
    • Assist in preparing briefs for attorneys on legal matters arising on audits
    • Participate in BDGlobal IFRS Working Group and sub-groups
    • Provide input tBDGlobal on comments on exposure drafts, proposed amendments tstandards, technical interpretations
    • Monitor annual reports of non-BDlisted clients tcompare tBDreports and ideas for wordings and explanations for
    • inclusion in annual reports
    • Review annual reports when requested for compliance with accounting standards, JSE Listing Requirements and King
    • Committee codes
    • Review working papers and agreements relating tareas of compulsory consultation
    • IAS 36 Impairment of Assets
    • IFRS 13 Fair Value measurement
    • IFRS 2 Share Based Payment
    • IFRS 3 Business Combinations
    • Distribute BDtechnical bulletins and prepare SA bulletins when the need is identified
    • Participate in SA Auditing and Accounting Standards Committee (Technical Committee).
    • Remain up tdate with new standards and amendments and developments in SA and international business/finance/economics that may have accounting implications of interest
    • Identify training needs tbe addressed and facilitate the training tprofessional staff and supervise the training tall otheraudit staff.

    Requirements

    Essential

    • B.Com CA (SA)
    • "3-5 years’ post-qualification experience.
    • Experience in a technical accounting consulting role"
    • "A sound knowledge of and exposure tall IASB accounting standards
    • A wide general knowledge of legislation and regulations that could affect financial reporting"

    Desirable

    • 6-7 years’ post-qualification experience
